The Pres ident’s message on this page was tak en from the W .S .G .A 31st Annual G olf Championships in June of this year. President's message June 1985 C_ormei Valley where the trees seem to grow taller and the grass appears greener than the Jolly Green Giant, is ogam hosting WSGA $ Member ship Meeting and Annual Championships The beautitui Rancho Canada Country Club under the directorship of Nick Lombardi, will be the sight of our 31st An nual Championships We welcome all of the new officers and members who are here for the first time and especially Mile-High Golt Club of Denver Colorado Thrs has been a wonderful year for golf The activities provided by the member clubs at their annual tournaments have been beyond reproach WSGA has through the years attempted to provide the proper atmosphere for its golfing members and guests We are only fulfilling the dreams of our predecessors in providing a quality program for WSGA s members First, since we are a handicapping organization, we want and deserve the recognition given to the other associations under the umbrella of the United States Golt Association (USGA1 We do not wish to join forces with Northern or Southern California Golfing Association. Publinks. or any other handicapping association we just want to be known and recognized as a bonafide han dicapping organization throughout the Unfed States Secondly minority goiters have always had a difficult time in getting the most for their money WSGA is no different Although we have as an association, gotten many golf course and hotel owners started with a Dang we have seen these same owners price us out of their hotels and oft their golf course What are we going to do about this situation'’ Are we going to sit back and ollow this to take place’’ No we are not going to go another 31 years and not have something of our own We should consider starting an investment unit this unit would enable us to build our own golfing and housing complex second to none We must do it now. we have waited 30 years too long Presidents you must keep your members motivated and excited about your dub and the association if you continually support the philosophy of WSGA and its program your members will follow your lead Area Vice Presidents you must monitor each one of your clubs It is your responsibility to keep them moving and growing in order to do this you must meet them on a regular basis become involved in the planning of their tour naments and help them to meet deadlines I feel more involvement throughout WSGA by the tournament chairperson or his/her committee members would enhance the running of sanctioned tour naments according to WSGA guidelines This couia eliminate many of the com plaints Committee chairperson, enlarge your committees to include members from each of the areas of WSGA We need solidarity before we undertake any major project We recognize members outside the State of California A quarterly publication is another dream of the founders We must have a communication vehicle to disperse information to members of the association on a regular basis in order to do this the Publicity Committee has been renamed the Editorial Committee Each club president must be committed to making this a viable committee thank you for your continued support and cooperation during the pas’ two yea's i only hope I can serve you better in 1985/86 I Cullen Fentress, Vernon Gdsktn, Mary L.
