Shane Smith, a junior majonng in

PSU’s summer studies program going to
Kenya, Last Afnca this summer The
program runs from June 27 io July 29.
She would like Io "broaden" her

She needs 12,2UO o f the 12,975 the inp
will cost. And she is willing to accept a
loan, or tax deductible corn nbut tons to
help defray the exist. Either way. she
said, “ I would be grateful. I am honest,
and I ’ll repay whatever anyone loans
me.
Shane Smith's story is a sad but fa

father are not able to help me, and that's
why I am making this appeal."
Kenya is only one o f several coun

summer: Ireland. Israel, Brazil, Mexico
and Spain being some o f the others, said
Daman Wakhungu, the Kenyan sum
mer siudies program director. She added
that this is the first time Kenya has been

Wakhungu said there is a lot lo he
gained from studying abroad, and she
feds that "churches and «im m unity
organizations have a responsibility to
help needy students."
