Roberts was died by Bradley, join
ing with Councilwom an Pat Russell,
on behalf o f L .A . ’ s citizens, for his
“ outstanding contributions to the
community and the city in promoting
and encouraging youth to resist
drugs.”
Right T ra c k ’ s unique approach is
to use "celebrity pressure” to encour
age youth to resist the “ peer pres
sure” to take drugs, and to furnish
responsible, ethical, successful role
models for them to relate to and emu
late. Right Track — with Michael as
C hairm an o f the board — has re
cruited many celebrities who agree
with M ich ae l’s anti-drug stand. The
Right Track program provides these
celebrities as guest speakers at
schools and offers kids help in com
municating their feelings and prob
lems to parents and teachers, rather
than withdrawing through drugs.
“ Right Track has always viewed
drugs,” according to M ay o r Brad
ley’s proclamation, "n o t as the prob
lem — but as the wrong solution to
the problems faced by our young and
has provided answers to these prob-
lems by giving youngsters alternative
ways to solve their situations and by
inspiring them to rise to greater
achievements in their lives.”
Michael studied dram a in high
school in Los Angeles, and later at the
C a lifo rn ia Institute o f the Arts and
the School o f Perform ing Arts in
San Diego, and with instructors Jeff
Corey and M anu Tupo. H e made his
feature film debut in “ H e artb re ak
ers” and starred in “ Ice Pirates” for
which he was nomined fo r a 1984
N A A C P Black Image Aw ard as best
supporting actor.
He has guest-starred in episodes of
"Jigsaw John,” "M ed ica l C enter,”
“ The H u lk ,” and ” B .J. and the
Bear,” and has had the rare oppor
tunity o f working with Richard Bur
ton in an episode o f "T he Fall G uy."
His versatility as an actor and re
fusal to be type-cast, playing such
diverse roles as the street-smart
Rooster and the impeccable Professor
Arrechia, is matched only by his gen
uine concern to provide role models
for today’s young people, and to en
able them to live a better life.
