Disabled vets
get raise
A J.2 percenl increase in Veterans
Adm inistration compensation checks
to service disabled veterans and de
pendents beginning in January is one
o f numerous improvements in veter
ans benefits announced today by
VA Jack G. McReynolds, Director ol
the Portland Veterans Administration
Regional Office.
The increase in disability compen
sation and other henel'ils is the result
o f the Veterans' Benefits Im p ro ve
ments Act o f 1984 signed into law by
President Reagan.
The rate boost means an increase
from $1255 to $1295 per month for a
veteran w ith a disability rated at Hit)
percent. Veterans w ith a 50 percent
disability w ill receive $376 per month,
up from $364, and those with 10 per
cent ratings w ill gel $66 a month, up
from $64
The le g isla tio n also increases lo
$349 the annual allowance made to
certain veterans whose artificial limbs
or wheelchairs cause wear on their
clothing

and children o f veterans who died in
service or o f service-connected
causes.

formed Portland Junior Hobbiest, will conduct an introductory class on
building and flying model airplanes at the
