Fellowships
The appointments are designed to foster
continuing contacts Between the laboratory and
recent recipients of doctoral degrees who show clear
and definite promise of becoming out standing leaders
in scientific research <reas
Appointments are considered in many areas of expert
m ental and theoretical physics chemistry mathe
matics com puter science biology materials science
environmental health medical research geoscience
and engineering
Candidates may be persons completing their doctoral
work or finishing a current post doctoral appointment
as well as lunior faculty members seeking support for a
period of concentrated research
Appointments are for two years with the possibility of
renewal for a third year we provide a stipend of $41 WO
per year 112 monthsi Fringe benefits are also provided
Including incoming travel and moving expenses
Applications submitted for this fellowship are referred
to appropriate technical groups for review Particularly
outstanding candidates are selected for sponsorship
by laboratory staff Members A detailed research
proposal reflecting the candidates creativ tv interest
and abilities is developed in consultation with the
sponsor Final selection Is determined in a Laboratory
wide com petition based on the proposed research
proiect in addition to previous academic and research
excellence
To insure timely consideration a resume or employ
m ent application (usually available from Placement
Office) graduate and undergraduate transcripts and a
statement of research interest and goals should be
submitted by mid December to

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Education Commission o f the State» (EC'S), an in­
terstate agency established by compact, is searching for a
leader with a thorough know ledge o f American education,
a solid understanding of state education policy and the
ability to help strengthen education leadership within the
Mates.
I he person selected should
■ I nderstand and be able to speak on education and re­
lated political issues from the state
MAKE IT

■ Relate effectively with state policy leaders and federal
education officials
■ Provide leadership and direction to a staff o f approxi­
mately 15 professionals and 2ll support personnel
