1985 Development
Providence Medical Center
Providence Medical Center will be issuing plens end specifications to a
selected list of contractors lor the 1985 Development project now being
designed by the architectural firm of Skidmore, Owings b Merrill of Port­
land
This 1985 Developm ent consists of a five level 151,000 addition to
Providence Medical Center, 4805 NE Glisan Street, Portland, Oregon
97213. The brick clad concrete exterior walled structure has a steel frame,
metal deck with concrete fill interior framing system The building will in­
clude a variety of patient care/ancillary and support departments The work
also includes alterations and tie ins into other surrounding structures.
The addition is designed to expand vertically, with the addition of three
floors and a roof, in the future. The building has its own fan room utilizing
steam from the existing central power plant and chilled water from the new
chiller plant located in the existing Laundry Building.
BIDDING: The project will be separated into two phases, as follows:
PHASE I: This phase will be bid in July 19B4, and will include the following
work
1 Demolition of the Research and Chapel building, the utility tunnel from
the main Hospital to the Ambulatory Services building, plus areas of
adjacent buildings involved in the project.
2 .Excavation of the site down to the tunnel level floor elevation and ad­
jacent areas affected
3 .Shoring will be required along the south side of the building site
Shoring may be required along the east and west sides of the site also
All shoring to be located and defined in the Bid Documents.
4 .Underpinning of adiacent foundation per plans and specifications

BIDDERS LIST: A selected list of General Contractors will be issued plans
and specifications for bidding both Phase I and Phase II. The list of ap
proved Contractors will be selected after Prequalification by the Owner's
Representative and Consultants The selected list will include the General
Contractors, Mechanical Contractors, Electrical Contractors, and other
maior Subcontractors required on the project
SELECTION PROCESS: In order to be selected for the approved bidder list
the General Contractor. Mechanical Contractor, Electrical Contractor, and
major Subcontractors, must have had an office located in the Portland,
Vancouver metropolitan area for at least the last five years
Contractors interested should send a letter to Breedlove McConnel
Engineers requesting a Prequalification Questionnaire The Prequalification
Questionnaire required must be returned to Breedlove McConnell
Engineers, Inc., by no later than June 11, 1984 Any Prequalification
received later than that date will not be included in the selection of the ap
proved bidders.

Phase I work includes all work indicated on the Contract Documents except
for work indicated as part of Phase II Phase I work includes all demolition
work, concrete sidewalk system, porches and handrails, garbage struc

A field inspection will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 1984, beginning at
