Safari Club summer fun planned
King Center
unveilsplaque
King Neighborhood Facility, on
May 14th, unveils a plaque com­
memorating its namesake, the late
civil rights leader, M artin Luther
King, Jr.
The 10 a m. ceremony at 4813
N .E . 7th Ave., will have Portland
M ayor Frank Ivancie and Matthew
Prophet, supenntendent of the Port­
land School District, as featured
speakers.
Portland City Commissioners,
Charles
Jordan
and
Margaret
Strachan, will be assisted in the un­
veiling by two students from ad­
joining King Primary School and
the plaque designer, artist Barbara
Johnson.
The school, an early childhood
education center for preschool to
Grade 3, also will provide music
selections from its student choir in­
troduced by school board member
Herb Cawthorne.
Wondering what your school age
child will be doing with his or her
time this summer while you’re at
work? I f you’re looking for con­
structive, entertaining activities to
occupy their time, you should con­
sider a unique day-camp program
called the Safari Club, offered by
Ainsworth

Daycare
located at N .E . 30th and Ainsworth.
The program is for 6 to 12 year olds
and runs June 14th through August
31st. The center will be open week­
days from 6 a m. to 6 p.m.
The Safari Club emphasizes get­
ting kids out-of-doors during the
summer and letting them explore

program will be kept at a nominal
fee. I f you register your child by
M ay 13th, you will receive an extra
discount on your enrollment fee.
Encourage another child to register,
and you’ll receive another discount.
Children may be enrolled for any
time period desired, but preference
will be given to children enrolling
for the entire summer. For further

and 5.00 p .m ., M onday through
Friday.

tivities including at least one d if­
ferent field trip each weekday. Trips
will range from concerts on the M all
to Fishing and overnight campouts.
Kids can also learn how to swim or
tumble from qualified professionals
or improve their reading skills by
being members o f the camp's book
club. Along the way, children will
develop important leadership skills
by helping to plan their own ac­
tivities.

Jantzen Beach
family fair
Jantzen Beach Center is planning
a Family Fair for M o ther’s Day
weekend, Saturday, M ay 12th, and
Sunday, M ay 13th. The two-day
event will feature trade booths from
various Jantzen Beach Center mer­
chants, family-related businesses
and
services.
