Regional O ffice nationwide. A p p li­
cants must be at least 18 years old at
the time they report for duty and
must be capable o f performing a r­
duous work.
Generally, about 4,000 seasonal
jobs are available in the Pacific
Northwest Region o f the Forest Ser­
vice (Oregon and Washington) each
year. These include aids and techni­
cian* in forestry, range, recreation,
fire control, engineering, and sur-
veying and pay from $5 to $6 per
hour. The term o f employment is
usually less than three months. In
1983, 11,833 applications were re­
ceived in the Pacific Northwest Re­
gion with 1,300 new hires selected
and 3,000 rehired to fill positions.

It is the policy of the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of
Oregon (Tri-Met) that Disadvantaged Businesa Enterprise (DBEs) and
Women Businesa Enterprises (WBEs), as defined in 49 CFR 23.62 and
23.5, respectively, shall have the maximum opportunity to participate in the
performance of contract* and subcontracts financed in whole or in part
with federal funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation
In this regard, Tri-Met ha* established overall qoals for Federal Fiscal Year
1983 1984 of 10% DBE and 1% WBE participation in federally assisted con
tract*.
Tri-Met ha* also developed proposed DBE/WBE certification third party
challenge procedures in accordance with 48 CFR 23.69.
A description of the methodology used in establishing the overall DBE and
WBE goal* a* well as the proposed third-party certification challenge proce
dura are available for inspection from December 5, 1982 to January 4, 1984
