cause there is an organization o f
men and women in Portland who
use the communications o f Citizen
Band radios to assist one another
under the banner o f the A ll-C ity
C .B .a u b .
Citizen Band radios or CBs were a
fad in the early 1970s. As the signals
faded on this fad a group o f P o rt
landers who were introduced to CB-
ing during this period found out
that they dug it and kept their ears
on.
Their handles (names they call
themselves) range from Low Down
Dirty Snake. Magic, Brain Damage,
Skull, Stoney, Boss, Buzzard, L .A .
W o lf, and Track down. On any day
you can hear these brothers rapping
politics,
economics,
day-to-day
problems and love on C .B . Channel

Brain Damage said, “ 1 use my CB
for communication. It is a hobby.
We have a lot o f fun with one
another now. Now , it is a competi
tion within one another. W e come
out and key on [talk to] each other.
That means we all come out and talk
at the same time. It is like a verbal
wrestling match. The one who
breaks through is the w inner."
Magic said, "Because of our jobs
and families we can’ t visit one
another. The CB keeps us in touch.
W e do not use our CB for road con
ditions to bry to outrun the police.
W e help our own sick people and
when the weather gets bad we use
our CBs to help one another get to
work. I f we hear o f a sick person in
the community who cannot get
around we communicate that and
share what we have with them .”
"Trackdow n said, " In case o f an
emergency and you can’t call for
anyone you just call Trackdown. I ’ll
key up on all these boys right here
and get you some help.”

a thing that they did and I will do
my best to help someone else."

is until you listen to some o f the
white CB-ers. Snake said a lot of
what they say on their CBs I
couldn’t print. "Jungle Bunny,
Nigger and all kinds o f monkies.
When I hear this I don't believe in
turning the other cheek. I talk just
as nasty back to them as I can be

The A ll-C ity CB Club o f Portland
takes care o f their own. Their love
for talking does not mean they love
to hear themselves talk. They use
their CB as a link to each other and
as an SOS in their time of need.

based on a 131 page Congressional
study by the office o f Technology
Assessment titled. " T h e Effects of
Nuclear W a r.”
Immediately following The Day
A fte r, at 10:15 p .m ., A B C News
will broadcast a one-hour special ed
ition o f "V iew p o in t.” Anchored by
Ted Koppel, "V iew p o in t” will fea
ture a distinguished panel o f experts
reflecting different points o f view
on issues raised by The Day After.

west V iew point,” live at 11:15 p .m .,

p o in t." The program, hosted by
Rick Meyers, will focus on regional
concerns over the nuclear problem.
Lindberg supports hearings
on Portland nuclear free zone
After months o f considering a nu
clear free zone ordinance for Port
land to be "n o t a priority,” City
Commissioner M ike Lindberg re
cently announced his full support
for public hearings on the viability
o f such an ordinance. Lindberg
stated to New Clear VLsion, an or
ganization supporting such an or
dinance, that he "w ould like to en
courage that the issue get a full and
fair hearing in front o f the City
C o u ncil," and that he "w ould ask
the other city commissioners to give
their attention to the [nuclear free
zone] issue.” W ith support from
Lindberg’s office. New Clear Vision
will now petition formally for a
1984 hearing date.
Testimony as to the constitution
ality and the economic viability of
stopping nuclear weapons and parts
production in Portland will be the
focus o f the hearings. New Clear V i
sion hopes the economic viability
discussion will encourage local com
panies to disclose the nature and the
dollar amount of their nuclear wea
pons parts contracts with the De
partment o f Defesne. This inform a

a nuclear confrontation and its de
vastating effect on a group o f aver
age American citizens, will be tele
cast as a special “ A B C Theatre”
presentation, Sunday, Nov. 20, at
8:00 p .m ., on K A T U -T V , Channel
