C O — The words Olympic Training Center (O T C ) may conjure up images o f athletes running, jum ping, throwing and lifting. There is no question that the athletes are the main ingredient o f the Colorado Springs based sports facility, but they are only part o f the story. In addition to a cadre o f full-tim e employees at the O T C . college stu­ dents and recent college graduates are given the opportunity to work as interns for periods o f three to six months. "These internships provide valu­ able learning experience for these young people, many o f whom are planning careers in sports," said Doug Rogers, brand manager, M iller High Life. M iller has made a three-year, $3 m illion commitment to underwrite the operating ex­ penses o f the Center. One o f the interns working at the Center this year is University o f Georgia graduate Cecil Thomas Threat, Jr. Threat w ill be working in the News Bureau along with three other interns. Broun M ayall, director o f the bureau, said "T hreat will be writing releases concerning the athletes who come to the O T C and distributing those releases to hometown m edia." Following his graduation from Auburn (A la .) High School, Threat joined the U .S . A rm y, where he served six years in the supply depart­ ment. During the period he served in the A rm y, Threat attended the University o f H aw aii and the U n i­ versity o f M aryland. Following his discharge in 1978, he attended Southern Illinois University, Ed­ wardsville, III. Threat graduated from the U n i­ versity o f Georgia in Athens, G a., last year with a degree in journalism. M iller's three year commitment to the Center is one part o f the firm ’s Olympic involvement. In addition to support o f the Colorado Springs and Lake Placid (N .Y .) training centers, M iller is a co-sponsor of the National Sports Festival (N S F j and the 1984 W inter Olympics.
