Rutherford are heaping congratula­
tions on this former Portlander who
was graduated, summa cum laude,
M ay 14 by How ard University
School o f Law in Washington, D .C .
Rutherford, seventh from the top o f
her class o f 186 candidates for
diplomas, had a grade point average
o f 89.76 which placed her in the lop
9 * . o f the graduates.
A t the degree presentation cere­
monies. Rutherford was cited for
honors for her activities in the
campus International Law Society
and (he Black American Law Stu*
dent Association. Rutherford was
also the holdet o f an Aetna scholar­
ship from 1980 to 1983 being one o f
the two recipients; the was a Law
Journal Invitee; American Jurispru­
dence Awards Torts, Federal Tax 1
and was a recipient o f an Earl
Warren Legal Training Scholarship.
Rutherford's undergraduate work
was begun at Los Angeles City C o l­
lege, was continued at University o f
Washington and was completed at
Portland Stale University where she
earned a Bachelor o f Science degree
in Administration o f Justice and a
certificate in Black Studies.
Prior to attending law school,
Rutherford had several years o f
work experience as a human rights
investigator with the Civil Rights
Division at the Bureau o f Labor for
the Stale o f Oregon in Portland; she
was Commissioner for the M etro­
politan Human Relations Commis­
sion and held many board positions
in the community including the
Portland State University Advisory
Board, Chair of Black Justice Com ­
mittee and Chair for the Albina
Voter Registration and Education
Committee.
A t present, Rutherford is em­
ployed as a clerk for the N A A C P
Legal Defense and Education Fund
in Washington, D .C . where she has
assisted in extensive discovery in a
Title V II class action suit.

persons who visited the gallery each
week for the four weeks the show

Gardner who offered space at the
gallery.

Michael Warren Robley, son of
Donna and Wade Robley o f 10940
South West Hood Avenue in Port­
land, Oregon, has been awarded the
degree o f Doctor o f Medicine by St.
George’s University, School of
Medicine in Grenada. He has ac­
cepted residency at Greater Balti­
more Medical Center where he will
specialize in Internal Medicine.
D r. Robley graduated M ay 16th
at a formal ceremony at the United
Nations in New York. The com­
mencement address was given by
Lord David Pitt o f Hampstead,
England, a member o f the Universi­
ty's Academic Board.
St. George’s University, which
does its instruction in English, has
an average pass rate o f 82 percent
over the last 3 years in the E C F M G
exam, placing it second in the world
among more than 90 overseas medi­
cal schools accepting American stu­
dents This graduating class has a 96
percent passing.
