BEC sponsors Black History ball
The Black Educational Center
will hold its Second Annual Black
History Costume Ball on Saturday.
February 5. f983 from 9 p .m .-2

located at 1708 N.E. Alberta St.
Harriet Tubman. King Tut, Billie
Holliday and Frederick Douglass
were only a few of the black histori­
cal personalities that stepped from
the pages o f history at the first
Black History Costume Ball. This
year in addition to prizes for indivi­
dual costumes, special cash awards
will be given for the most original
organizational entries. The entry fee
for this catagory is $10 and the
prizes are: First place. $100;
Second-place, $50; and Third place,
$25
Since February is Black History
Month the Black Educational Cen­
ter is attempting to recreate the tra­
dition o f mutual support that has
historically existed in black commu­
nities by inviting community organi­
zations to share in the fun and prof­
its of this celebration o f black his­
tory and culture. Organizations sell­
ing a minimum of 25 tickets will re­
ceive $2 o f each ticket sold The
Royal Esquire Club is offering its
support by waiving a portion of the
club’s regular rental fee.
Tickets for the ball are $7.50 and
can be purchased at the Talking
Drum Bookstore located at 1634
