A native o f V e rn o n ia , O reg o n ,
Carson attended Oregon State U n i­
versity where she received a bachel­
or o f science degree in Business A d­
m inistration in 1961. She taught in
Beaverton and C e n te n n ial school
districts and received her master's
degree in Business E d u c a tio n at
O S U in 1968. She has tau g ht fo r
PCC since 1968.
In 1980, Carson earned her doc­
torate in Curriculum Development
and Supervision w ith emphasis in
business fro m U ta h State U n iv e r­
sity.
Carson resides in P o rtla n d , but
remains active in several organizaa-
tions in the Forest Grove area.

Hill joins judiciary com m ittee
Jim H ill, ibe representative-elect
fro m D is tric t 31 o f the O reg o n
House o f Representatives, has re­
ceived two prime committee assign­
ments from Speaker-designate G rat­
tan Kerans, according to an an ­
nouncem ent made W ednesday a f ­
ternoon.
H ill was elected to the House in
the November general election and
will be one o f two blacks serving in
the Legislature during the upcoming
session. H i l l, w ho represents the
south and west Salem areas, is the
first black ever elected to the Legis­
latu re fro m outside the P o rtla n d
area.
" I am very pleased to announce
that Representative-elect Jim H ill
w ill serve on the House Ju d iciary
and the Elections committees." said
Kerans. " T h e House is blessed to
have a number o f attorneys among
its ranks this Session and we had a
number of good choices to consider
fo r the Judiciary C o m m itte e. But
Jim H ill has proven to me to have
one o f the best legal minds around.
H e is an excellent choice fo r the
committee.”
The Judiciary Com m ittee consid­
ers all bills relating to courts, judge­
ships, civil and crim inal trial cases
and other legal matters. It is one of
the Legislature’ s most prestigious
com m ittees and is considered a
prim e assignment fo r a first-te rm
represen tative. C h a irm a n o f the
co m m ittee w ill be fo rm e r House

Five school ad m in istrative posi­
tions will change the first o f January
in Po rtlan d Public Schools due to
the retirement o f two veteran school
principals in December.
F ou r o f the persons being p ro ­
moted are women, and three are m i­
norities.
Lou Tesch, principal o f Faubion
P rim a ry School fo r 11 years, is
tra n s ferred to Lee E le m e n ta ry
School. He succeeds H a ro ld C o o k,
w ho is re tirin g . Tesch has been a
teacher and adm inistrator in P o rt­
land for 20 years.
Assigned as acting p rin c ip a l at
Fau bio n is K athy Y a rn e ll, fo rm e r
adm inistrative assistant at the C o l­
umbia campus o f W h itak er/C o lu m ­
b ia M id d le Sch o ol. She has been
with the school district for 13 years.
W illiam Rotrammel will take Y a r­
n e ll’ s position at C o lu m b ia . N ow
administrative assistant at the W h it­
aker campus, he is in his 20th year
with the school district.
L in d a H a rris , who is b lack, w ill
replace Rotramel at W hitaker as as
teacher on special assignment. She
has been a teacher w ith the school
district 11 years, most recently with
the C o m m un ity Relations D e p a rt­
ment.

Renee Ito-Staub will become act­
ing principal at Richmond Prim ary
School, following the retirement o f
G rah a m H y d e this m o n th . Ito -
Staub. an Asian, is now administra­
tive assistant at Portsmouth M iddle
Sch o ol. She has been w ith the
school district seven years.
Elaine Jamison w ill assume Ito -
S tau b 's p o s itio n at P o rtsm o u th
Middle School. Ms. Jamison, who is
black, has been with the school dis­
trict nine years, most recently with
the school district’s Curriculum D e­
partment.
