Costumes
for Halloween
by Butch Coors
Making that crucial decision of what to do for Halloween can be arduous
and frustrating, as well as creative and fun, but worst o f all it can be ex
pensive. This year make an investment for Halloweenl Consider it a good
excuse to buy yourself something that otherwise might be hard to justify.
Develop a character, use makeup, accessories and, most importantly, imag
ination.
Probably one o f the most versatile and elegant choices is a kimono. Sleek
and flowing, feminine or masculine, a simple flow o f silk, embroidered or
silkscreened, owning a kimono may already be a secret dream. A kimono
can lead you into the world of Oriental mystique, as you select your mas
querade character. Be a Geisha, Shogun, Empress, Emperor, Madame But
terfly, Susie Wong, Bruce l.ee or Charlie Chan. The opportunities are myri
ad. f ombined with imaginative make up, elaborate hairdos or wtgs with
chopsticks, your character will begin to take shape. The exotic character
and the luxury o f silk will be sure to enhance your own sensuous and mys
terious qualities, leading to a night of enchantment.

After the party, your kimono moves into the holiday season as a hostess
gown, a formal evening coat, a dressing gown or a lounging robe. Between
wearings it graces your living quarters as a wall hanging.
Keep ’Em Flying has a large selection o f kimonos, dating from the early
1900s through the present, for men and women.
Other investment options for costume wear that can move easily into
your everyday life include (fo r women) wonderfully slinky bias cut ’30s
evening gowns (with feather boa, please), or drop waist, slim and elegant
'20s day or evening wear recapturing the excitement and glamour o f the
early Jazz Era. Be a gangster’s “ m oll’’ in a '40s suit (which can do double
duty at the office) or wow 'em in a cocktail dress o f classic '30s lines as M ar
ilyn Monroe for Halloween, and go to the next cocktail party as yourself, in
a great new dress.
Keep ’Em Flying has a large selection of men’s wear, including suits and
separates in wool and gabardines, with wide shoulders and pleated pants.
The styles o f the ’30s and '40s evoke many characters, from Fats Waller or
Clark Kent to Al Capone. A change of shirt, tic and hat bring the look for
ward to today’s fashion standard for the business world.
Men and women will find western gear, some with rhinestones and em
broidery, an easy fashionable costume possibility. Men mustn’t overlook
the options of a tuxedo or a satin smoking jacket, or. more simply, slip on a
beret and a silk scarf for the look o f “ the artist.**
Come and and look, be creative, and have fun costuming this Halloween
at Keep ’Em Flying, 510 N .W . 21st, 11-6 Mon.-Sat., Sunday 12-5. Invest in
quality garments with classic lines. Accessorize for the masquerade. Then
enjoy your new clothes in more ways than one this year.
