Refugee program extended

The City's Refugee Program, im
plemented in 1981, has just received
its second year grant award in the
amount o f $54,000.
Two coordinators have been hired
to direct the Refugee Program.
Bruce Thowpaou Bliatout, former
Executive Director o f the Refugee
Orientation Center, will serve as city
liaison to community groups. Sara
G. Cogan, a former employee with
the City's Bureau o f Economic De
velopment, w ill coordinate refugee
a ffa irs w ith other local govern
ments.
The coordinators w ill focus on
the 1982-83 program goals which
are (1) to strengthen the role o f local
government in refugee policy devel
opment, (2) to strengthen resettle
ment e ffo rts at the neighborhood
level, (3) to coordinate activities
with other agencies collecting and
analyzing data refugee policy devel
opment, (3) to coordinate activities

rivals and needs (4) to expand public
education, programs and orienta
tion efforts for agency staffs, neigh
borhoods and interested members
o f the com m unity, and (5) to pro
vide increased technical assistance in
economic development for refugees

ness and financial institutions.

tion to the Schwinn-sponsored Gold
Cup Race, the ABA will host a spe
cial Pre-Race at 12 noon on Satur
day, September 25, also at the M t.
Nebo BMX Raceway.

school board chairman fo r the
Northeast Christian Preschool and
Day Care Center, 5209 N.E. 22nd.
The school, in itia lly established
by the Northeast Assembly o f God
congregation, was re-opened three
years ago by the Sharon Seventh-
day Adventist Church as a commu
nity service. The center provides
pre-school, kindergarten, day care
and latch-key programs for children
o f all social and ethnic groups in the
Northeast Portland area.
