The ’80s are the decade o f women
in music. And Vanity 6 is the group
o f women that w ill forever shatter
radio's sex barrier. The three sultry
sirens in Vanity 6 — Brenda, Vanity
and Susan— are tackling a musical
turf that was previously a man's do
m ain— daringly explicit and honest
sexuality.
Vanity 6 come on stage in scant,
racy stage ou tfits, singing original
songs to match, songs like “ Nasty

open on his upcoming October tour,
backed by fellow Minneapolis gold

But lest anyone think that Vanity

M rs. Soul Aretha
The name Aretha Franklin conjures up— for millions across the w o r ld -
images o f em o tio n , intensity and fire: the pure essence o f that elusive
quality known as soul. Aretha Franklin’s influence as one o f the forerun
ners o f black music today has earmarked her as a legend in her own time.
Aretha's musical education unquestionably began in church with the in
tensity o f gospel music which was the backbone o f her vocal style. She had
her first big hit in 1967 when “ I Never l.oved A M an (Th e Way I Love
You)** brought her the first o f several gold records. Fans will quickly recall
other early hits in “ Respect,” “ You Make Me Feel Like A Natural W om
an,” Baby I Love You,” and “ Chain o f Fools."
By the mid-seventies, Aretha had received an astounding six gold albums
and fourteen gold singles, as well as many music industry awards.
Her newest album, Love All The H u rl Away, contains songs by some o f
the top composers in modern music. She puts her definitive stamp on “ It's
M y T u rn " by Carole Bayer Sager and Michael Masser, The Rolling Stones*
“ You Can't Always Get What You W an t,” as well as a couple o f her own
compositions. The album also includes a soul-stirring duet with George
Benson on the title song.
