Are appearances important? Shoud you always put your best foot forward? The answer to all o f the above is most assuredly yes. Why? To the world, you are what you project. If you are well- groomed, your chances o f being accepted by society can be quite favorable. However, if your appearance is shabby, the negative response you receive from society will reflect upon you also. With the present state o f the economy putting stringent limits on your budget, you arc probably wondering how one can maintain and afford an acceptable appearance. An avenue to explore is resale or thrift shops. It is amazing what quality items can be found in these marvelous places. You can find everything from furs to furniture— name brand merchandise one can ill-afford to purchase brand new. Even the cloudiest days won’, take the shine out o f In the past, a stigma was placed your fashion power with the brown slicker rainsuit upon people who wore ••so-called" (right). In this two-piecc, which is functional rain or second-hand clothing. It was shine, an A-line skirt is teamed with a hip-length jacket believed they were too poor to keep topped by a stand-up collar. A raspberry cire overcoat up with the "Joneses" and their and matching baggy pants (center) wiii make a big status was below the norm. What people failed to realize was, wealthy people have always been aware of the bargains available to them in resale and thrift shops. Even though the rich have the necessary wherewithal! to buy the best, they are never above cutting expenses. Charge accounts and credit are valuable resources to draw upon when needed, bu, they can also become a millstone around your neck when you can’t meet the payments. True, it’s nice to buy new items, but are they indeed good quality merchandise? Where can you purchase a ranch mink stole of excellent quality for $60, or a hand- carved. hand-painted five-piece cherrywood bedroom suite for $500? At a resale shop, where else? Being a business person involved in resale fashions, I have gained access to quality items I would never have discovered otherwise. People have a tendency to be ashamed to have it known they frequent establishments o f this nature. Too much pride can cause you to overlook things o f value, place you in unnecessary financial difficulty, and keep your pockets forever empty. A word o f advice: Don’t be too proud to search for bargains— the rich never are. Until next time, remember, "Th e rich get richer and (Left) Barely there, burgandy georgette fashion floats the poor get poorer"— sometimes about the body in two tiers; (right) strapless plum tube by choice. evening dress is lavished with a deep-toned sweater- ALL SIZES AVAILABLE Belle Wilson, Owner Consignments Accepted (Q u a lity M erchandise O n ly ) By Appointment Plea»e 281-9418 Tues.-Sat. 10 am-5 pm Visa & Master Charge 2406 N.E.
