G eorge W a lle r J o rd an , a teacher
in the P o rtla n d School D is tric t for
17 years, died in a Portland hospital
Thursday, February 18. H e was 76.
F un eral services were Tuesday in

interm ent in Sunset H ills M em o ria l
P ark.

Jordan earned his bachelor's degree
from Rust College in H o lly Springs,
M iss., and his master's degree from
the University o f Portland.
W hen he first came to P o rtla n d ,
M r . Jo rd an w orked as a p ainter in
the O reg o n S h ip ya rd s, and played
saxaphone w ith the W a lte r Bridges
Band. H is teaching career began in
1954 at th e G e o rg e E le m e n ta ry
s c h o o l. H e r e tir e d in 19 71 , but
w orked as an evening in stru cto r in
th e U r b a n L eag u e O u tre a c h p r o ­
gram.
