Honor thy father and mother
Understanding Your Elders
The Black youth must remember his history with pride and he must
look upon his elders with understanding. He must realize that every indivi
dual cannot be a superman triumphant over the forces that try to keep him
down. He must understand that the slum mother who works as a maid to
bring food to her family or the uneducated father who does menial labor
and bows to “ the man” are doing the best they can to keep body and soul
and family together.

“ The voice of a whole people, oppressed by a
common injustice, is far more likely to command
attention and exert an influence on the public mind
than the voice of single individuals and isolated
organizations.”
— Frederick Douglass
