O utside it was a cold Feb ru ary
night.
Inside there was warmth and food
on the fire. There was laughter and
the clinking o f champagne glasses.
A couple o f hundred people were
having a birthday party for Maurice
Lucas. M aurice, the form er T ra il
blazer.
D own at C h u c k ’ s Steak House
(owned by Don and M aria Lowe) on
the river’s front, fans had gathered
to talk about the evening's Blazer
game with the New York Knicks at
the M em orial Coliseum. Fans also
wanted to shake hands w ith their
friend. Maurice Lucas— win or lose.
Because it was Luke's birthday.
Luke did not disappoint his fans.

everybody and posed for pictures by

flew o ff with his current teammates.

A party is not a party without mu
sic. Nola Sugai Bogle led the crowd
in the H ap p y B irth day song and
then proceeded with three sets from
her repertoire o f golden-oldies. A l
though she has not sung profession
ally for a w hile, she was in good
voice and her s u ltry , rich , deep
tones flowed like satin.
Nola was accompanied by profes
sionals like herself— the trio o f mu
sic men who record w ith D ian a
Rdss: M e l B row n, master o f the
drum s, P hil Baker on bass, and
that young genius, George Mitchell,
at the piano.

Maurice Lucas Jr. missed the party
in Portland. They stayed at home in
New York during this trip back to
old haunts by the head o f the fam
ily.

Over at St. Andrews Community
Church they are spreading the table
cloths again. Hazel Motley is chair
person for the annual Four Seasons
tea party, a part o f the program o f
the Commission on Missions o f the
United Church o f C hrist. The tea
will have the shine o f silver dona
tions on V a le n tin e ’ s D ay at St.
Andrews.
Hours for the tea are from 4 pm
to 6 pm. The Spring table is under
the direction o f Shelly Pinex, Sum
mer Table is by Grace Randall and
her committee, the Fall Table is by
Gwen Osborne and the W in te r
Table is under the direction o f Hazel
Motley.

Shamsud-Din has joined “ North
west Artists” in an art show devoted
to Comics. The group has scheduled
a reception on Sunday, February 21,
from 3 to 5 pm on the campus o f
Mójylhurst College. The show is ex
pected to be open to the public from
Feb. 21 to March 19. It promises to
be quite different. The Mayer G al
lery w ill be showing photos at the
same time.
The campus galleries are housed
in the reconstructed college gymna
sium.
