“Les Femmes”presents 1981 Debutantes and Cavaliers
• 'L e i Femme»,” the first organ
ized group to introuduce the
debutante ball to the city o f P o rt
land, begin» its third decade o f ser
vice. providing leadership training,
com m unity service, guidance and
personal developm ent fo r young
adult men and women. Since 1931,
over 100 girls have been presented to
the co m m u n ity at the D ebutante
Ball which serves as the clim actic
event o f the training.
In 1979, the club initiated another
first with the presentation o f Debu
tantes and Cavaliers. Cavaliers, rep
resenting ju n io r and senior boys,
prior to this time, trained and parti
cipated in group activities and
served as escorts and ushers for the
balls. Balls were held continuously

until the late sixties when through
the changing social climate, such ac
tivities were rejected as "snobbish.”
D u rin g this p e rio d , Les Femmes
adopted the need to provide scholar
ships and has continued this prac
tice.
On this, its 30th anniversary, Les
Femmes will present 13 Debutantes
and 4 C avaliers on Saturday, D e
cember 26, 1981 at the Red L io n ,
Jantzen Beach.

The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (Tri-Met) is
issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) for consulting service* in connection
with the procurement of electricalenergy by negotietion with BPA and local
utilities.
All proposers must certify that they are not on the Comptroller General's list
of ineligible contractors.
