Isaac Hayes' Years of Making
1966
Along with David Porter, Isaac wrote and produces some o f Sam A
Dave’s first major compositions: "Soul M a n ,” " H o ld On I ’ m Com ­
ing” and "W hen Something Is Wrong W ith M y Baby."
1967
Presenting Isaac Hayes was released on Stax Records while Isaac re­
ceived his first gold record for penning "Soul M a n ." Isaac also re
members the death o f his good friends, Otis Redding and members
o f the Bar-Kays.
1968
Dr. M artin Luther King is assassinated in Memphis and psychologi­
cally affects Isaac to a state o f non-productivity. Isaac and friends
form The Black Knights, an organization slated to deal with prob­
lems directly related to Memphis' Black community.
1969
H o t Buttered Soul is recorded and released the same year and con­
tained the Isaac Hayes classics “ By The Time I Get To Phoenix,"
" W a lk On By" and "Hyperbolicsyllabicesquedalymistic.” H o t But­
tered Soul garners Isaac his first gold album. In that same year at the
Masonic Temple in D etroit, Isaac makes his first m ajor concert ap­
pearance and appears on nationwide television singing " W a lk On
By” on the Dick Clark Show.
1970
Isaac goes to Hawaii to perform for the first time and meets activist
Dick Gregory. The Movement garners another gold album and Isaac
plays the Apollo for the first time.
1971
Hot Buttered Soul reaches gold status while The Movement and To
Be Continues achieves platinum status. History is in the beginning as
Isaac prepares scoring Shqft.
1972
Isaac’s list o f awards begins to flourish; an Oscar for Shqft, Song o f
the Year, Oscar nom ination for dram atic score, G ram m y, Globe
Award, N A A C P Image Award and a host o f others. Performed at
the M em orable Wattstax Festival for 100,00 at the L. A . Coliseum
along with such R & B greats as l uther Ingram, Rufus Thomas, M a­
vis Staples and Johnny Taylor. Later in the year, Isaac receives a
platinum album for Shaft and finances a 250 unit low income hous­
ing project on the Isle o f St. C ro ix . Records and releases Black
Moses.

Truck Turner, the film which starred, and was scored by Isaac is re­
leased Isaac’s film work begins to broaden as he co-stars with An­
thony Newley in the Canadian production o f " I t Seemed L ike A
Good idea A t The Tim e."

Isaac Hayes I I I was born along with Isaac’s own record label. Hot
Buttered Soul Records. The label’s first m ajor success is a gold al­
bum for Isaac’s Chocolate Chip. Later that year, the label releases its
second LP on Isaac, Groove-A-Thon.

Dionne Warwicke and Isaac join forces to record " A Man And A
Woman” and complete one o f the most successful U .S. tours in his­
tory. Later that year. Juicy Fruit is released and Isaac, a guest at the
W hite House, boogies with Betty Ford. W ith good friend James
Gasrner, Isaac makes his dram atic T V debut completing his first
"Rockford Files.”

" D e ja V u ” is nom inated for a G ram m y, as recorded by Dionne
Warwicke for performance and Isaac’s nomination comes under the
guise o f composer. Isaac is also nominated for best R & B male sing­
er, while his new single " D o n ’t Let G o " and album o f the same title,
receive gold certifications. His first for Polydor Records.
1960
Isaac is better than ever and Polydor releases "A n d Once A g ain ,”
the critically successful album which contained the cover version o f
the classics " I t ’s A ll In The Gam e" and "T h is Time I ’ll Be Sweet­
e r.” Early in that same year, Royal Rappms was released featuring
the unpredicted pairing o f Isaac with the Queen o f Rap, Ms. M illie
Jackson.
1961

Phew! Isaac ran his first ten miles and fell in love with Atlanta. He
completes two more episodes o f "Rockford Files” and releases New
Horizons, his first album for Polydor Records.
A L ifetim e Thing, the 2 lst album o f Isaac’ s career is released on
Polydor/PolyGram Records, the label’s sixth. A Lifetime Thing in-
clueds the hit single, “ I ’m Gonna Make You Love M e ” and in the
Isaac Hayes tradition such classic re makes as " I ’m So Proud” and
"Three Times A L ady,” featuring Isaac on saxophone. His movie
career takes o ff as “ Escape From New Y ork” directed by John C ar­
penter shows signs o f becoming one o f the year’s top grossing films.
Still expanding into other areas. Isaac obtains chart representation
for his production on the new Donald Byrd chart toppler. Love Has
Come A round and premiers his "Black Music Countdown featuring
Isaac Hayes” (a weekly, two-hour radio syndication).

For The Sake O f Love, the second album for Polydor Records, is re-
leased while Dionne and Isaac successfully tour Australia. While he
Isaac Hayes may only be a lifetim e thing but surely his music will
continue through many lifetimes.

Rosey Turns Crooner!
Rosey Grier, the gargantuan sized former Rams linesman will turn his tal­
ents to singing when he guests on a Bob Hope Special. He teams up with
former football greats Bob L illy and Dick Butkus to sing a linesman’ s
lament when "Texaco Presents Bob Hope's Stand-Up-And-Checr for the
N atio n al Football League’ s 60th Year (A n A ll-S ta r Com edy Salute to
A m erica’ s #1 Spectator S p o rt),” Sunday, N ov. 22, 8-10 p .m . (E T ) on
N B C -T V . Rosey, who has made a successful switch from tackle to actor,
joins the other two linesmen in singing a lament that partially says "every
game’s the same old story, we take the pain and the backs get the glory.”
That's the theme o f their song. The star line-up for the show includes Eliza­
beth Taylor, Olivia Newton-John, Michael Conrad from “ H ill St. Blues,”
Susan Anton, Betty W hite, Barbara M andrell, Don Knotts, George Gobel
and Howard Cosell. From the football world the guests include O .J. Simp­
son, Georgia Frontiere (owner o f the Rams), George A llen, Roger Stau-
bach, Hank Stram, Week Ewbank, George Blanda and G ir o Yepremian.
A ll this plus spectacular film clips o f notable games and exciting moments
