Joyce Joined the Emanuel Nursing
Department In March 1962, one year
after receiving her Bachelor of
Science Degree In Nursing from
walla walla College School of Nurs
ing. since her employment, she has
worked In the Maternity and Labor
and Delivery Departments as a staff
nurse and assistant head nurse.
Since 1973, she has been the head
nurse In the Labor and Delivery
Department.
At first, Joyce had planned on a
career In elementary education, but
changed to nursing because she
thought she would like It. She enjoys
working In OB because she considers
it a happy, fun place to work. Even
tually, she plans to go back to school
for a Masters degree In nursing.
GENE WOODARD
in December 1977, while attending
Portland State and playing football
fo r the Vikings, Gene started work
ing at Emanuel In the Distribution
Department. Gene, a Psychology
major, had not planned a career In
the health field, but In April 1978, he
applied fo r a transfer and was
promoted to supervisor In the
Housekeeping Department. His new
position meant that he needed fu r
ther education In management and
institutional housekeeping. Because
of his successful efforts, he was
promoted to Assistant Director In
May 1979. in June 1979, Gene was
once again prom oted to Director of
Housekeeping and Linen Services, a
position he holds today.
Onlta entered the Radiology
Technician program at Portland
Community College In September
1973. until her graduation In June
1975, she spent her clinical affiliation
at Emanuel Hospital. After spending
tw o years In Colorado, she returned
to Emanuel In January 1979 and has
been working as a Radiology Tech
nician since. Onlta has always been
Interested In the health care field
and enjoys the patient contact
through her work.
