    Working for
the future
at Intel
You can'i M y it enough. C areen for the ’80» are in
computer technology. A subsection o f this technology is
the manufacturing o f computer components and a lead
er in this industry is Intel. But behind every innovative
and successful company are its employees.
Richard Castellanos, employed for seven years, is a
site test manager at In tel. " I ’m responsible for all the
testing o f computers and equipment th a t’s m anufac
tured in our plant. I t ’s done effectively because we have
technicians who support engineers. Intel is the leading
m anufacturer o f single board computers, industrial
control systems and recently we’ re getting into micro-
frame computer systems." It is a complex responsibility
that’s handled by someone from San Diego State. He is
not a rookie in the business world, having worked for
other large companies. Prior to coming to Intel he de
veloped his goals and interests. At Intel they were only
enhanced and expanded.
With Richard Castellano’s talents and experience we
know the future holds no crossed wires for him. " I ’m
contemplating at this point expanding my knowledge
out o f the technical and maybe in to the finan cial
sphere." *
Sharing Castellano's determination and pride in his
career is Moses Davis, a senior engineer. " In the manu
facturing system department, I assist in producing SBC
boards. This means single board computers and
they re based on Intel’s microprocessors. An individual
would buy our boards and put them in another system
and sell (hat system to an end user, like a bank. My re
sponsibility covers twenty products in the line. I check
and develop design, testability and integrity.” Davis in
dicated that he goes from the drawing board into the field
to see where their systems are placed and how they are
utilized.

Davis first developed an interest in the industry when
he was a small boy toying with radios and T .V .s . " A
person needs a background in software and computer
science. They ve broken the field up into specialties like
pans and linear supply, switchers and field service peo
ple, along with technical writers.” Davis was born and
raised in Watts and attended a technical school where he
derived his employable skills.
Notes to youth and career seekers
Intel is constantly looking for a few good people to
train and develop for business. As part o f that effort.
Intel has coordinated with Portland Community C o l
lege Technician Program. In this program, people work
20 hours per week and attend school full time. After the
program is finished and the students graduate they are
merged into the environment o f Intel.
Davis and Castellanos are role models for planning
your career because each worked toward achieving a
foundation in their respective careers. They are lucky
enough to have found a company that is designed to fur
ther their ambitions.
