    Making police
work their
careers
FRANK J MONTRAND
A native o f Wareham, Massachusetts, Frank became
a police officer February 18, 1981.
Before coming to Portland, he did a variety o f jobs;
construction work, and he was an auxiliary police o f­
ficer.
In 1976, he joined the A rm y and became an M .P .,
and specialized in criminal and accident investigations.
He was stationed in Massachusetts and in Germany.
H is hobbies are bowling and softball.

CARMEN SYLVESTER
A native o f Portland, Carmen graduated from L in ­
coln High School, and later attended Portland Com­
munity College Cascade Campus.
A working mother o f four teenage girls, she became a
police officer in 1974. She is currently assigned to the
T raffic Division and is also a Safety Education Officer.
She teaches 2-10 year olds how to use the phone and
dial their own numbers; how to ride their bikes and a
variety o f other skills.
She is a certified coach and coaches basketball, soft-
ball. volleyball, and track at Holy Redeemer. She enjoys
bowling and is an assistant leader o f a Girl Scout Troup.
