Cell Talk
Walk for Equity
By Asmar Abdul Setfullah
Aka J œ » est
As 1 write these lines I’m first
filled with anger - the anger is sud
denly replaced by fear and in
adequately.
Presently, 1 am a patient in the
Oregon State Penitentiary hospital
ward. I suffer from bronchial ash-
ma and the summer weather greatly
aggreviates my condition. I’ve been
in and out of the hospital for the
past two weeks, which is the
primary reason Cell Talk hasn’t ap
peared lately. I therefore apologize
to my readers for not planning
ahead therefore causing this lapse.
During my illness, I was the vic
tim of a blatant and cowardly racist
attack by a hospital technician, who
withheld medication prescribed by
my doctor.

At home in Livingroom
Looking for a good dining and
lounge atmosphere? Visit the
Livingroom at 1025 N.E. Broad
way.
The Livingroom Restaurant is not
just another good place to eat. The
atmosphere, from the time you en
ter the door, is one which is
designed to put you as ease. Formal,
yet comfortable, the Livingroom is
arranged to make each person feel
at home, as if he were in his own
livingroom. This is the philosophy
upon which owner John Lombardo,
has based more than a decade of
food and beverage experience.
This philosophy is evident in
every aspect of the restaurant and
lounge from the decor to the varied
menu and demeanor of the staff.
The expertly-prepared meals,
ranging from steaks to lamb and
veal dishes, are created by Chef Bob
Conner and are served by an ex
perienced staff led by Maitre d*
Chuck Durrow. The Livingroom
experience is one you will want to
remember. Lunch service 11:30 to
3p.m., Dinner - 5:00 to 11:00, Mon
day through Friday. Dinner, Satur
day only - 5:00 to 11:00.
This act was perpetrated because
of my political and racial beliefs - it
was an act of retaliation for my
position as a prison writer and a
Black spokesman for the Uhuru
Club. It clearly illustrates the
degenerate mentality of a racist
white employee who took it upon
himself to punish me.
I have been very vocal during my
incarceration and the action of this
miget racist to harm and silence me
physically is no more than a sign of
the sickness that exist behind these
prison walls. I’m what is commonly
known as a big mouth nigger, a up-
pited nigger, arrogant and crazy
nigger in the white world. My at
tem pts to bring you the news is
greatly resented by the peon racist
guards. No doubt the feeling goes
higher up but the giant devils are far
too clever to expose themselves with
obviousness. I’m not accusing the
prison administration of this act of
devilment but 1 do believe that the
miget racist will interpret what he
believes to be the wishes of the giant
racist.
Traditionally Blacks have always
suffered their brutalist attacks at the
hands of poor white folks. These
miget racist believe in their duty to
lash out at Blacks. Who else is there
for them to hate when their con
dition isn’t much better than ours?
This attitude has been handed down
historically and you will find the
most racist white folk in the world
working in law enforcement.
1 he average prison guard is
uneducated, he comes from deep
southern roots, although geography
has nothing what-so-ever to do with
racial attitude. Still in all, we must
bear in mind that institutions like
prison offer the perfect opportunity
for people to act our their racial
frustration without censorship. The
beast is at his wildest when he wears
a police uniform.
This act of racist devilment has
clearly shown me that my life and
the life of anyone who opposes
racism behind these walls isn’t
worth a damn. It shows me how
helpless 1 am without outside sup
port. It shows me that I am on the
right track or it wouldn’t have hap
pened.
This isn’t the first time something
like this has happened to me. I have
been threatened, harrassed and in
timidated by miget pigs before.
Their actions don’t surprise me but
this article serves notice that only
my death will silence my pen.
I plan to take legal action against
this individual and the ad
ministration he represents. 1 ask for
the support of the Black community
in the full exposure of this racist in
stitution and its acts of genocide and
discrimination against all prisoners.
Please bear in mind that success
depends on unity inside and outside.
It’s high time that the correctional
system be exposed for the beast it is
- this germ must not spread any fur
ther. My security depends on you. I
don’t want to be a accident and
there’s oppossums being thrown
about behind these walls too!
I’m glad that this incident hap
pened because it serves as an incen
tive in my struggle to retain my
idenity and dignity. All praise due to
Allah for allowing me to fight in the
cause for truth and may we all con
tinue to oppose the germ of racism
wherever it appears.
