From the Front Door
By Tom Boothe
From the Front Door, since my last article, a group of community citizens
have formed a t earn that will work with other citizens of our community in an
effort to clean up and maintain a clean community from this time forward.
This group will be forming a structure whereby it will have supporters on the
one hand and workers on the other. One of its primary objectives will be to
produce a self sustaining economy in alliance with Businesses, Agencies,
Churches, Youth, Senior Citizens and the City of Portland.
The group is enthusiastic and eager to get to work. The initial mandate will
be able to work with our youth who are out of school for the Summer and do
not have Summer jobs.
I will publish our progress, and solicit the support of my readers, as well as
other citizens to pitch in and help. I believe that if we all pull or push in the
same direction we can produce a community that all of us can be proud of.
But we must start doing what we can for ourselves, and stop asking others to
help us do what we an and ought to be doing for ourselves.

Cleanliness is a virtue that can be measured directly by others, and
cleanliness feels good, and there is no reason why we can't be clean, no
reason why we can't keep our community clean, no reason why we can't
teach our children the practice of cleanliness, courtesy and positiveness of
attitude.
