NOW PLAYING AT A TV NEAR YOU: KPTV-12'S
“ GREAT MAY MOVIES"
Every month is movie month on The Movie Station,
KPTV-Channel 12. And the Great May Movies already
underway on 12 are more entertaining than ever. No less
than 42 films are being offered, chosen from TV-12’ s
impressive cinem atic lib ra ry . Two have never been
shown before on KPTV: Rollerball, an unnerving view
o f future society reserving all its violence for a single
public sport; and The Bridge at Remagen, which
chronicles Allied efforts to secure a critical landmark
from German control.
In addition, one o f the films this month is a first-run
OPT (O peration Prime Tim e) p ro je ct, created by
several independent stations that have begun banding
together to produce special quality features.
Am ong the Great May Movies are examples o f
comedy and suspense, fantasy and ro nance, spanning
the frontier and Fifth Avenue. From the following sam
ples there is sure to be a selection that will fit most any
taste.
must constantly prove himself to brutal overseers and
his own fellow prisoners, whose fiercely competitive
leader is played by George Kennedy. (His depiction o f
the raw gang boss won Kennedy an Oscar). There are
many ways Luke meets the pressure to prove his mettle,
and one o f the film ’ s most memorable scenes has
Luke betting he can eat 50 hard-boiled eggs in an hour.
Yet few o f Luke’ s trials are so light, and eventually he
has to stake everything he is for the sake o f survival.
Delta Dawn. The whole country is about to be cheated
out o f its land. The young couple scurry to rescue
Seth and Sarah Beaumont and their neighbors from
such a swindle, but find even the sheriff is part o f the
Ossie Davis. Telly Savalas and Burt Lancaster in
"The Scalphunters."
Lee Purcell, and Phillip M achale star in "The
Girl, The Gold Watch and Dynamite."
The Scalphunters d e ftly combines Old West ex
citement and satirical humor. Burt Lancaster is a fur
trapper ambushed by Indians not long after spending a
year in the Rockies. They steal his valuable pelts and in
exchange leave him an educated runaway slave, played
by Ossie Davis who has a great time with the part. The
Lancaster-Davis « nbination is both brilliant and fun
ny. Their search fo r the lost furs results in serious
misadventures which "w ill have the audience rooting all
the way.”
CASABLANCA
A longtime favorite appears again during TV-12’ s
May line-up: Casablanca, the 1942 classic which gar
nered an Academy Award as Best Picture o f the Year.
Humphrey Bogart brings outstanding talent to the role
o f Rick, whose cafe in northern Morocco attracts more
than its share o f intrigue along with visitors fleeing war-
torn Europe. Rick manfully holds his own in such an
environment. But even his resourcefullness is put on the
line after the sudden reappearance o f his past’s deepest
love, played by beautiful Ingrid Bergman. Hunted by
Nazi, she and her idealistic husband turn to an em
bittered Rick as th eir last means o f escape. This is
romantic drama at its best. And o f course, there’ s no
substitute for Dooley Wilson singing, “ As Time Goes
By.”
the greedy plot. Kirby and Bonnie seek shelter above
Mamie’ s Dream Palace, a popular striptease joint. Yet
they’ re captured by the criminals who leave them in the
country o f a nasty bomb. That uncomfortable position
has to be handled before our heroic pair can reckon with
a new duty, preventing destruction o f the levee dam.
Dozens o f farms would be wiped out in moments.
Finally, Delta Dawn herself steps forth in a surprising
confrontation.
The soundtrack song for The Girl, the Gold Watch
and Dynamite is sung by recording star Richie Havens,
who also appears in a guest role for this production.
Other Great May Movies include Serpico, Thunder
bolt and Lightfoot, Reap the Wild Wind, and The Solid
G old Cadillac. This is certainly a month well worth
remembering - on TV-12.

The Girl, the Gold Watch and Dynamite is this year’ s
sequel to the OPT hit presentation. “ The Girl, the Gold
Watch and Everything. ” The watch in question is quite
useful: it stops time altogether, allowing Kerby Winter
(Phillip McHale) and his lovely companion Bonnie Lee
Beaumont (Lee Purcell) to unhitch crime in the making.
This time they themselves are about to tie the marriage
knot when a crisis interru pts. Bonnie’ s parents are
threatened by a bevy o f villians directed by a mysterious
