P u b lic H e a rin g : A new federal law, which is intended to find permanent
homes fo r many children now in foster care, w ill be the subject o f a public-
h e a rin g on J a n u a ry 29, 1981 in the N o rth A u d ito r iu m o f the F ederal
Building, 915 Second Avenue, Seattle. The hearing w ill be from 9:00 a.m. to
4 :3 0 p .m . The p urpose o f th e hearing is to receive p u b lic co m m e n t on
regulations to im plem ent p u b lic law 96-272 (The A d o p tio n Assistance and
C hild Welfare Act o f 1980), one o f the most significant pieces o f legislation
affecting children in recent years.
For the first tim e, federal aid w ill be availabe fo r the adoption o f children
w ith special needs, including older, handicapped and m in o rity children. A ll
states w ill be required to establish an adoption assistance program no later
than October I, 1982.
