A new decade, as well as a new year, adds excitement to the program this month. Ira D. Mum ford, urban 4-H extension agent, ex tends a special invitation to the youth of the community to become a part of the ever expanding net work of 4-H clubs providing the op portunity for fun and learning. For the past nine years the 4-H programs has been active in the Albina community, with organized clubs for youngsters with similar in terests. 4-H provides the oppor tunity to gain skills and participate in activities which broaden their educational experiences. A ll ac tivities are free of charge, with the exception o f special camping ex periences. 4 H community workers and program assistants coordinate programs in schools throughout ur ban Portland. W ith the help o f volunteers, teachers, college stu dents, parents, the young people in the program receive instruction in a variety of project areas, including arts and crafts, nutrients, sewing, journalism, photography, pet care, dance, growing plants, grooming, cultural studies, health and music. Anyone interested in after school activities under the leadership of 4- H, is invited to call the Urban O f fice, 287-1770, or visit the King Neighborhood Facility, 4815 N .E. 7th Avenue, any day of the week. There is always a need for adult volunteer leaders. If you have ttwo or three hours available each week, whether or not you have special in terest or hobby, please call the U r ban Office and join the 4-H team for the eighties. You'll enjoy it!
