“SPECIAL"
PEACHES & HERB “ HO T, HO T, H O T !”
A veritable volcano o f excitement erupting on the pop music scene, Peaches
& Herb's last albutnn 2 H O T !!, soared to the top o f the charts, garnering
double platinum status with over two million copies sold. The three hit singles
from the LP, "Shake Your Groove T h in g ," " W e ’ve G ot l.o v e ," and
' ‘Reunited, "combined to sell close to six million units, with "R eunited" alone
accounting for over three million.
Producer and MVP Records President Freddie Perren, known for his work
with Yvonne Ellirnan, The Sylvers, Tavares, the Jackson 5 and Gloria Gaynor,
employed his skills to make this fiery twosome the hottest duo in the record
business. Peaches & Herb literally burned their names inexorably into just
about every area o f the music world, from disco to pop to easy listening. A
former arranger and pianist for Jerry Butler, Freddie Perren went from the
position o f staff producer for Motown to owning his own production com
pany, Grand Slam, his own studios, "M o m and Pop’ s Company Store,” and
finally, his own record company, MVP. When he first formed MVP Records,
Freddie knew he had to debut the label with a really hot talent that could carry
his creative ideas to their fullest, and his choice was simple. Peaches & Herb,
who made musical history with a string o f 60's hits, including "T o r Your
Love, ” “ Love Is Stranger, " "Close Your Lyes, ” "United, "a n d "Let's Tall In
Love, " were the logical pick.
This past year saw Herb l ame and Linda Green, Peaches & Herb, accom
plish much more than merely selling records and conquering the charts. In the
spring, the dynamic duo performed at a benefit for D.C. Hospital hosted by the
First Lady herself, Rosalyn Carter, who thanked Peaches & Herb personally
for their help and generosity.
And then, on September 16ih, I979, Peaches St Herb made history by
becoming the first Black entertainment group to perform on mainland China.
Their appearance was part of an NBC-TV Bob Hope Special and it was seen
nationally. Judging from the response and the ratings, the duo was regarded
equally as appealing and talented in China as in the United States. Linda
especially enchanted the Chinese with her exotic costumes and glamorous ap
peal. Peaches & Herb proved once again that they are an act with truly inter
national appeal.
The accomplishments o f the Polydor/M VP Records recording stars didn’ t
stop at the Great Wall, either! Peaches & Herb appeared with Sammy Davis,
Jr., at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, performing before enthusiastic standing
room only crowds. Not only did they spark tumultuous ovations at each con
cert, they won the love and respect o f the legendary Mr. Davis, who praised the
pair to everyone within earshot.
SRO engagements at the famed Greek T heatre in Los Angeles and Carnegie
Hall in New York, as well as at every other major venue where they have ap
peared, lead to only one conclusion-Peaches & Herb are superstars in every
sense o f that abused expression. Each have that burning desire that explodes on
stage, screen and records.
With their latest Polydor/M VP release. TW ICE THE LIRE, and its initial
single, "Roller Skatin M a te ," Peaches & Herb look like they are about to
duplicate the success o f 2 H O T !! and that would be no small accomplishment.
Their names should, by now, be etched on every music lover’ s memory.
Singularly, they are Herb Fame and Linda Green. Together, they are
PEACHES & HERB. More than the sum o f their exquisite parts. Twice the
Talent...Twice the Fire!
