Up-date kitchen areas with new floors
If you want more kitchen space and have no place to
expand a minimum ot expense and a maximum of imagination
can transform any kitchen corner into a large multi-purpose
living space
Kitchens are growing,
gaining in size. The wall
that once separated the
dining room aod kitchen
has been removed. In its
place is an expanded
space that incorporates
areas for jotting down
recipes, kitchen prepara
tion and informal dining.
If you want more kit
chen space and have no
wall to remove, with a
minimum of expense and
a maximum of imagina
tion you can transform
any kitchen corner into a
large multi-purpose living
space.
First rule, don’t feel
you have to fill every
area. The room will ap
pear more spacious with
lots of floor showing Re

maintain.
If you’re the least bit
handy, you can save one-
third the cost or more by
installing the floor your
self. Wide widths of six,
nine or twelve feet have
solved the problem o f
seams in most rooms.
Next, push plants,
table, chairs and other
furniture against the
walls. Select cool colors
and light accents to punc
tuate the floor design.
Wicker plant baskets and
rush seats open up the
area and give a sense of
comfortable informality.
One wall painted peach
adds decorating drama.
For a floor to ceiling
window effect, back light
a plexiglass panel. As an
energy saver and mood
setter, hook the light to a
dimmer switch.
Tie the corner together
by hanging a large wicker
basket on the back wall
and a wicker lampshade
over a simple table setting
topped with seasonal
flowers.
With
these
easy
decorating up-dates and
the flick of a switch you'll
be able to transform this
room into a comfortable
work area by day or a
romantic dining spot at
night.
