Community Calendar
The king Tutankhamun exhibit will dose its United States run this fall in San
Francisco, and Portland Community College will be offering one final chance
to view the exhibit at a low cost. PCC has scheduled a trip to see Tut in San
Francisco from September 11th to 14th. The cost o f the trip is $250, which in
cludes round-trip air fare, three nights lodging in a downtown hotel, admission
to the Tutankhamun exhibit at a private daytime viewing time, admission to the
Five Thousand Years o f Korean Art exhibit, tours o f San Francisco, lectures
prior to the exhibit and other amenities. Also, arrangements can be made for
travellers to take in other cultural attractions during the daytime and three
evenings in which they w ill be in San Francisco. For more inform ation on the

The Afro-American Heritage Bicentennial Commemorative Q uilt w ill be
exhibited June 1st through Rose Festival Week 1979 at the Oregon Historical
Society, 1230 S.W. Park Avenue, Monday through Friday. 10:00 a.m.-4:30
p.m. and Saturday noon to 4:30 p.m. Among the quilt blocks o f historical
events and personalities is one about Home Run Champion Hank Aaron. The
quilt was designed and made by fifteen Portlanders. Hank Aaron w ill be the
Grand Marshall o f the 1979 Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade.
How did Ape Caves in Southwest W ashington come into existence? A. fa m ily
adventure trip sponsored by OMS1 w ill seek an answer to that question on Sun
day, June 3rd. The group will investigate lavacicles, lava falls and flows and
ridges marking different levels o f receding lava. Fee is $5 for OMS1 members
and $6 for non-members. Maximum per family is $15 and $20. For registra

A day-long conference on Economic Development f o r Neighborhoods will
be held Saturday, June 2nd, at Portland State University from 8:30 a.m.-4:00

The Changing H oman chorus will perform original music and renaissance
madrigals in a concert at the Old Church, S.W’ . 11th and Clay, Thursday, May
24th, at 8:00 p.m. The concert is a benefit for the Women's Resource Center,
1915 N.E. Everett, a non-profit organization which provides community
resources, meeting space, and crisis intervention for all women o f Portland.
Tickets are available at the door on a sliding fee scale o f $2 and $3. Free child
care w ill be provided.
The City o f Portland Development Commission is sponsoring a free in fo r
mational session on buying state-owned property in the former Mt. Hood
Freeway corridor. The session is scheduled for May 24th from 7:30-10:00 p.m.
at 5224 S.E. Foster Road.
The American Bridge Association (Portland Unit) w ill host its (first) unit
play for Master Points and prizes on Sunday, June 3, 1979 from 2:00-6:30 p.m.
at the Esquire Hall, 1709 N.E. Alberta Street. A ll interested bridge players are

Tuesday, May 29th at 10:00-11:00 a.m ., Debbie Seifert, Producer o f
“ Energy Update" on KBOO-FM w ill present a live interview with the Adm ini
strator o f BPA, Sterling S. Munro. For one hour, listeners w ill be invited to call
in and ask Mr. Munro questions about the Bonneville Power Administration
and BPA’ s plans for electrical energy development in the Pacific Northwest.
The Salvation Army w ill hold a Technological Career-oriented workshop.

The Northwest premiere o f "Female Transport, ” an incisive examination of
the human spirit held captive, w ill open June 1st and play Thursdays, Fridays
and Saturdays through July 14th at The Performance Center, 215 S.E. Ninth at
Pine. The play depicts a group o f women convicts being transported by ship
from England to Australia in the early nineteenth century. Curtain is at 8:30
p.m. and late-comers w ill not be admitted. Tickets are $4 on Friday, Saturday

The Community School is having a huge rummage sale on Saturday, June
2nd between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The sale w ill be held in the school base
ment at 109 N.E. 50th Avenue. There w ill be hundreds o f things to choose
from.
Cherry Grove Center is offering summer camp experiences for children ages
8-16. Day camp is scheduled for four weeks — June 18th-July 13th (four one-
week sessions). A bus is available from Portland State University and pick up
points in Washington County. For ages 8-12. Resident Camp is from July 16th-
27th (two one-week sessions). For ages 8-12. Bicycle Camp runs from August
6th-18th (two one-week sessions). This program is for adolescents ages 13-16.

Seeled proposals will be received at the Purchasing Office, 2505 SE 11th for fur
nishing supplies, equipment, and personnel to provide Custodial Service for four
teen (14) locations of Multnomah County buildings for a one-year period. Three
(3) locations are set aside for a Minority Set Aside program.
Pursuant to the Administrative Rules of Multnomah County Public Contract Re
view Board (AR 40-030) prequalification of contractors shall be required for all
projects estimated to cost more than $50,000. Details of compliance are avail

Copies may be obtained at the office of STRAAM Engineers, Inc., located at

of $20.00 for each set. Any unsuccessful bidder, upon returning such set in good
condition within 15 days after the bid opening, will be refunded his payment.
Otherwise, a late charge of $5.00 will be made.
Attention of bidders is particularly called to the requirements as to non-discri
mination in employment and minimum wage rates to be paid under the contract.
Bids may not be withdrawn for a period of 75 days following the time of bid
opening.
Non-Discrimination in Employment Bidders on this work will be required to
comply with the provisions of Federal Executive Order 11246. The requirements
for Bidders and Contractors are explained in the Specifications.
Specifications are filed with the Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners and

attend a pre-bid inspection shall be cause for rejection of bids. I
No bid will be received or considered unless the bid contains a statement by the
bidder as part of his bid that the requirements of Section (4) 279.350, 279.362,
279.354, 279.355 b 279.356 shall be met.
All bids must be submitted on the attached proposal form. A bid bond in the
amount of five percent (5%) of the bid shall accompany all bids A performance
bond for 100 percent (100%) of the bid price will be required of the successful
bidder, within ten (10) days from date of contract award.
No proposal will be considered unless accompanied by a check payable to Mult
nomah County, certified by a responsible bank, or in lieu thereof, a surety bond
for an amount equal to ten per cent of the aggregate proposal. The successful
bidder shall furnish a bond satisfactory to the Board in the full amount of the con
tract.
The Contractor shall furnish an affidavit that he has paid the prevailing rate of
wage, pursuant to RCW 39.12, before payment will be made
