REVELATION 78 - SO BE IT
* * *
It was billed as Revelation 78, so said the executives o f the elegant downtown
Portland Plaza Condominiums last Wednesday night. The entire evening was
geared to show the prospective buyer exactly what condominium living is all
about — and boy was I impressed! The prices range from $67,000 to $115,000
with a ten percent increase on September 1st.
From the valet parking we were escorted to the elevator and were greeted on
the top floor by one o f six guides who gave us a tour from one through six o f
the condos on the floor. Every unit in the building has a view and TV monitor,
regardless o f where you live. We were guided through the party rooms, rec
room, exercise room and eventually onto the patio, where a smorgasborg o f
food and beverages were available — from black and green caviar to Remy
M artin cognac. The guests included Governor Bob Straub, Stan Wiley, Com
missioners Jordar, Schwab, and McCready, and many more notables.
The highlight o f the evening was sitting up front and being entertained by the
Duke Ellington Band, headed up by his brother Mercer Ellington, plus one of
the greatest pianists o f all time George Shearing! Need 1 say more?
GENEVA'S 18TH YEAR AND GOING STRONG
* *
Paul and Geneva Knauls recently celebrated their sixteenth year in business.
Geneva’s Cocktail Lounge is unquestionably the most noted and probably the
most successful Black-owned lounge in the Northwest. Having successfully
operated two lounges prior to opening Geneva’ s (the Cotton Club and Paul’ s)
it’ s no wonder Geneva’s has enjoyed its continued growth over the past eight
years. Its tasteful decor, pleasant atmosphere and friendly service makes
Geneva's a must on your entertainment list.
Sunday afternoon offered everyone who came in the door an afternoon o f
“ live” musical enjoyment! Featuring George Lawson on saxaphone, Benny
Wilson on organ, Raymond Torrance on guitar, and Anthony Nolan and Dale
Smith on drums. In all, it was a very enjoyable evening. See you next year!!

Who says it ’s just girls and boys
who lik e to go to camp in the

YW C A has scheduled an entirely
new session just for senior citizens,
adult women and men age 55 and

seniors can have the time o f their life
at Westwind, the 700 acre YW CA
camp at the edge o f the Pacific.
P reregistration is necessary and
openings are available to participate.
Special arrangements are being
made at camp to more adequately
accommodate the seniors. They w ill
travel from the Portland YW C A by
bus to the Salmon River Landing.
Here they w ill be met with boats and
ferried across the river. A tractor-
drawn trailer w ill take the group
from the water’ s edge across the deep
sand to Wilson Lodge. Participants
w ill be housed in cabins and meals
w ill be served in the dining room.
The schedule o f activities w ill be
flexible to allow plenty o f time for
exploring the beaches and forest,

Traditional camp activities w ill be
offered including arts and crafts,
games, ocean dipping, horseback
riding, cookouts, etc.
A nurse w ill be available at camp
at all times and a physician w ill be on

Participants receive a complete list
o f articles to bring for camp; they are
sent after registration. No fancy
equipment is needed.
Since 1936, young people have had
never-to-be-forgotten vacations at
W estwind on some o f the most
beautiful land on the Uregon coast.
Westwind is located 90 miles from
Portland, just north o f Lincoln City
and w ithin the protected Cascade
Head Scenic Research Area. The
camp has acres o f beaches, woods,
meadows, a hidden lake, rain forests
and mountain streams. Tiny crabs
and ghost shrim p th riv e in the
estuary and salmon use it on their
return to spawning grounds.
The camp is accredited by the
American Camping Association for
attaining standards in a d m ini
stra tio n ,
program ,
personnel,
facilities, health, safety, sanitation
and transportation.
Further inform ation on the special
