The "Portland Observer" welcomes the 69th Annual NAACP
National Convention to our state and invites our visitors to stay awhile
and enjoy Oregon hospitality.
Oregon is admired for its scenic attractions: the most beautiful
coastline in the world, which is all publically owned; the scenic
Columbia River Gorge; Mt Hood and the majestic snow-capped
volcanoes of the Cascade range; Hells Canyon, the deepest in the
world; Crater Lake; the Oregon Caves; the high desert of Eastern
Oregon where cowboys still brand their cattle on the open range and
basque sheepherders tend their sheep on the mountain sides
Oregon has one of the finest park systems in the nation, with 233
parks for camping, hiking, swimming, picnicking and other outdoor
activities There are hundreds of free forest camps provided by the
U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management and private
utilities. Thirteen national forests and Crater Lake National Park add to
the outdoor attractions
For those who prefer the easier life, accommodations range from
rustic fishing cabins to plush resorts overlooking the ocean or perched
on the shores of a mountain lake.
Whatever your vacation preferences, Oregon — this cool, green
vacationland — is the place you will find it.
