down and your mind relax this small but tastefully
decorated establishment will be just right for you.
Continuous recorded jazz is piped to each and every
coiner of the Opus. The selections are varied from old
to new and this sets the tone for a very casual, relaxing
time that can be enhanced with a glass or bottle of wine,
or a frothy glass of beer.
The Jazz de Opus at times can be crowded and at
others it seems the most appropriate place for friends
and loners to gather. The comfortable seating is
surrounded by wooden walls and hanging pictures
reminiscent of “ West Coast Modern” circa 1955. The
atmosphere is heightened by the lack of bnght lights and
the homey feeling generated by the circular fireplace
and bean bag chairs that dominate the back half of the
Opus.
For those who wish to snack, salads and sandwiches
are available, but it’s the relaxing atmosphere that
makes Jazz de Opus a hit.
Try it after a hard day of haggling, debating and men
tal strain, you’ll find yourself displaced in space and
time by a smooth cordiality and lack of crassness that
permeates this haven for the weary.

If your taste runs to the exotic and creative Chuck’s
will furnish you with an ample supply of both.
Amidst the tropical fish and ferns one may glimpse
the stars of the Portland Trailblazers, or members of the
Civic Theatre vainly trying to engulf one of the thickest
hamburgers in town. Or delicately following a bite of
steak dijon with a sip of wine.
The dress is casual, the service slow, but cordial, the
food is good enough to have a crowd of regulars who
continue to come back time after time.
The steak dijon is to be recommended, the chicken
terriyaki avoided, unless you enjoy dry chicken as an en
tree.
There’s a lot of movement in Chuck’s, it’s a busy
place, but the movement always seems appropriate for
this type of restaurant.
