Portland Veteran's Hospital. Tuesday.
February 14th, the day set aside as
National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans
Day.

making little or no growth now and the

becoming more visible.
Moss tn the b w n b a sign that
something is keeping the grass from
being us normal healthy self. Too much
shade, poor drainage, low fertility and
soil compaction all can keep grass from
growing and allow moss to grow. Now is
a good time to determine what the
problem is and correct it. Moss removal
car. be a two stage operation. First rake
out as much of the moss as you can. Then
apply ferrous ammonium sulfate at ten
pounds per thousand square feet. Apply
this material with a fertilizer spreader or
by hand

fertilises the bw n grass. Keep the moss
killer off the sidewalk and driveway
because it may permanently stain con
crete.
Now. while lots of rain is still to come,

nursery equipment is equally large.
Cribs. stroUers, walkers, playpens. and
carnages are the most dangerous pieces
because they are the items most fre
quentiy used.
Most consumers are aware of safety
features on new items, they may over
look unsafe features on their old or
borrowed furniture
Lead paint, torn or worn seat belts,
rough edges and finishes seem to be the
main safety problems with older equip
ment.
Many of the problems associated with
older furniture can be easily taken cart- of
with a small amount of knowledge and
effort.
Safety features to look for when
purchasing new nursery equipment foi

Ways to repair old or borrowed fumi

toys or dangling toys should be removed
so that baby cannot use them for climbing

possible, and lead paint removed for the
reason stated above in crib repair

baby as safe as possible during his or her
infancy and maybe save you a little
