Future problems in the quality of education and the financing of schools will be
discussed Saturday, November 20th at 980 a.m. at a meeting sponsored by the
Portland Branch of the American Association of University Women to be held at 1633
8.W. Park.
The public ia invited to attend and participate in the program titled, “Your Future
Posterity - Will It Get An Education?“
There will be a professional audio-visual presentation prepared by the Department
of Continuing Education. Dr. Paul Wurm, Portland State University professor, will be
the resource leader.
There is no charge for the program.
The Portland Symphonic Brass Ensemble, directed by James Smith, will perform in
a free Reed College Music Matinee on Sunday afternoon, November 21st, at 400 p.m.
in the college's community center.
The brass ensemble includes James Smith and Richard Thornburg, trumpet; Marc
Wolters, trombone; Gary Nelson, bass trombone; and David Gutman, french horn.
Nikolai N. Bolkhovitinov, a Russian authority on American history, will give a public
address on “A Soviet View of the American Revolution" December 2nd at Portland
State University.
The address is scheduled at 700 p.m. in room 75 Lincoln Hall (1620 S.W. Park) on the
PSU campus.
A student of 17th and 18th century American history, Bolkhovitinov is considered
pre-eminent in his field among the membership at the Institute of General History of
the Academy of Sciences in the Soviet Union. During 1967-74, he lectured and acted as
consultant at Moscow University.
“Frisky’s First Christmas Eve,“ an original puppet production, will be presented by
the Peppermint Puppet Theater on Saturday, November 20th, at Tucker-Maxon Oral
School and Holiday Boutique, 2860 S.E. Holgate Blvd., Portland The half-hour play
will delight all ages and will be performed at 1000 and 1100 a.m. and again at 200 and
300 p.m.
A small admission is charged with proceeds going towards supporting Tucker-
Maxon's physical education and art programs.
Tucker-Maxon Oral School is a private, day school for deaf children, which teaches
speech and listening skills rather than sign language or finger spelling.
The 1st Annual Dali Sale sponsored by Women's Service League of Goodwill
Industries will be on Saturday and Sunday, November 20th and 21st, from 10:00 a.m.
to 600 p.m. (Saturday) and from noon to 5:00 p.m. (Sunday,. Almost 500 dolls will be
placed on sale near the Mall entrance to Meier & Frank at Washington Square.
Proceeds to benefit programs and services at Goodwill Industries of Oregon. Dolls
have been recycled from those donated to Goodwill by the community, and have been
tand-dressed by clubs and organizations and individuals in the community.

Oregon Center For Peace and Justice
during November and December at St.

H ie hunger seminar, being offered in
cooperation with the St. Andrew Social
Action Commission, will feature four
two-hour sessions to be held on Mondays
from 700 p.m. to 900 p.m. The dates are
November 22nd, 29th, and December
13th, 20th.
The hunger study/action/reflection
seminar will focus in depth on four topics:
1. Seeing the problem - the basic facts.
definitions and statistics of world hunger
in the United States and other nations.
2. Understanding the causes - the
technical problems of food production and
distribution.
3. Understanding the causes -- the
social problems due to political and
economic institutions.
4. A Christian response - the basic
tools and skills of the Bread for the World
Christian Citizenship strategy to end
hugner.

The members of The Fleur-De-Lis Club will hold its 6th Annual Harvest Tea on
Sunday, November 21st, from 100 p.m. to 500 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed
Raibon, 4076 N. Mississippi Avenue. Mrs. Jewel White is President and Mrs. C. L.

Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church Women's Missionary Society will present
their Anneal Bazaar, Saturday, November 27th, from 11:00 a.m. until 500 p.m.
Handcrafts, quilts, pillows, white elephants, houseplants, plants for the garden, and
pasteries. Luncheon will be served from 1200 to 400 p.m.
A weight room is being equipped at the Mallory Church Gym. It will be open at 6:30
a.m.. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; after work on Tuesdays and Thursdays and
Saturday until 5:00 p.m. Everyone is invited.
A Free Thanksgiving Dinner will be held for the homeless and street people, 2:00
p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, November 20th, at the Highland United Church of Christ,

TKa NAACP Salam Branch will hold its third annual Charter Nigkt/Fmedom Fund
Banquet on Saturday, December 4th, 1976. T h e Banquet will begin with a no-host
cocktail hour between 6:30 and 780 p.m. with dinner served at 7:30 p.m. This year’s
banquet will be held at the Bronze Balloon, located at 260 High Street N.E.
Guest speaker at the banquet will be commissioner Charles Jordan, first Black City
Commissioner of Portland. The master of ceremonies for the evening will be Mr.
Chalmers Jones, Chairman of the state of Oregon Parole Board. Entertainment will be
provided by the ML Hood Community College vocal Jazz ensemble.
Tickets are 18.00 per person and can be purchased at the NAACP office located at
