Question: What does the Employment
Division do in the way of testing appli
cants for vocational choice and abilities?
Answer: The Employment Division,
through its local Job Service offices, may
test applicants who need help in assess
ing their interests, abilities and skills. A
variety of tests are available through Job
Service offices. Proficiency tests meas.ure
the skill level of the job applicant in
typing, spelling, and/or shorthand. The
General Aptitude Test Battery (GATB)
and the Nonreading Aptitude Test Bat
tery (NATB) measure the individual's
potential to learn jobs. The Basic Occupa
tional Literacy Test (BOLT) measures
the reading and math levels of the appli
cant. The Interest Check List (ICL) mea
sures the applicant's job related interest.
In employment counseling Systems E x
ploration and Research for Career Help
(SEARCH) is used to integrate these
measures of the individual so that job
opportunities can be found which meet
the temperaments, interests, abilities
and skills of the job applicant.
