loans for the first tim e on

the U n ited Way approved a $37,000 allocation for the St. John's Day Care C enter at a
m eeting W ednesday, Jun e 18th. The allocation covers 1975-76.
United Way sets funding goal
The U nited Way Board of
D irectors has approved a
cam paign goal of $8,315.05,
for 1975. A chievem ent of
the goal will require an
average increase of 8.1 per
cent o ver last year, accord
ing to Philip R. Bogue.

The Board also approved
allocations for 89 agencies,
including in North
and
N ortheast Portland. Albina
Fam ily S ervices. $55,000;
A Boys Clubs. $97,500; LIFE
Center, $21,000: St. Johns
Day Care. $37,000; Delaun
ay M ental Health C enter.
$39,686 and the Highland
Com m unity Center. $28,000.
A b ove average increases
w ere recom m ended for the
agen cies fighting the prob­
lem s of recession. Those
include a gen cies providing
child day care, counseling
for em otional family prob­
lem s and basic life support
agencies.
The allocations w ere ap­
proved after volunteer pan
els. 96 men and wom en,
review ed the program and
budget request of each
agency.
M em bers asked tough
qu estion s and got answers,'*
said Bogue. "Allocation re­
q u ests w ere com pared to
social service priorities de­
veloped by the Tri-County
Com m unity Council and the
Health and W elfare Plan­
ning Council. V ancouver.”
