Thursday, March 20, 1975 Page 7 SCC Comments papers, magazines, radios and televisions express our frustrations, they must also make evident various de vices for bringing about real change. There are about 225 Black newspapers in the United States and only four are dailies. We have about 30 Black owned radio stat ions but there are .360 Black oriented" stations owned by whites. These farts, inclusive of our 3 or 4 TV stations and a few cable systems, prove almost in significant when stacked against the white mass media: 1,750 daily news papers, 900 television stat ions, over 3,000 cable tele vision systems and 7,400 radio stations. Based on population alone we should have at least 770 radio stations and 88 TV stations. Our support is essential in supporting those Black publications and the elec Ironic media which truly su p p o rt us and our struggle. All praise due to the Black media continous existence in spite of lark of support and economic back ing. (Today's large circulation publication's rely upon advertising as their means of existence.) If we do not make the most of the media that we do have we can forget about free dom. At the same time the Black media must accept it's responsiblity to us. These are crucial times for us as Black people, we cannot afford to deal with "w ho's who” in Black America, who's married to whom or any other trivial matters of like nature. We can't survive off articles on Black people who have ' made it” in the system. The only way a Black person can “make it” is when all Blacks have “made it." To quote David Walker, a revolutionary Black writer of the early 1800's, "I call upon you therefore to cast your eyes upon the wretchedness of your brethren and to do your upmost to enlighten them go to work and enlighten your brethren!"
