The project consists of the engineering design and
construction of the Fifth Sixth Avenue Transit Mall. The
Transit Mall will be located in Portland. Oregon and will
require reconstructing S.W. fifth and Sixth Avenues
between W. Burnside and S.W. Madison Street to provide
widened sidewalks, landscaping and street furniture and
special traffic lanes to accommodate mass transit patrons
and vehicles.
The estimated cost of the project is $12.993.585. federal
participation will be $10.394.868 and the local share will be
$2,598.717 allocated from the funds collected by employer
payroll taxes.
No person, families or businesses will be displaced by this
project. The project will have a significant impact upon
he urban area.
The project is in conformity with
comprehensive land use and transportation planning in
this area. The project is currently under review by the
A 95 clearinghouse. The design of the facility take - into
consideration the special needs of the elderly and
physically handicapped persons.
At the hearing Tri Met will afford an opportunity for
interested persons or agencies to be heard with respect to
the social, economic and environmental aspects of the
project. Interested persons may submit oral or written
evidence and recommendations with respect to the
project.
A copy of the application for a f ederal grant for the
project, together with an environmental impact analysis
and the transit development plan for the area, is available
for public inspection at the Tri Met office, 4314 S.E. 1 1 th
Avenue, Portland, Oregon.
