Reverend Rozell Gilmore,
who recently completed a
year of Clinical Pastoral
training at Emanuel Hospital,
has accepted the position of
Program Director for the
Albina Ministerial Alliance
(AMA). His responsibilities
includes the administration,
interpretation and roordina
tion of the AMA programs
and goals as they relate to
churches in Albina, as well
as to church organizations
and individuals throughout
the greater Portland area.
Reverend Gilmore brings
to this new position a variety
of experiences. Since grad
anting from Cascade College
in 1963 with a degree in
religion, he has worked as a
Juvenile Group Worker for
the Multnomah County Juve
nile Court, and was a guid
ance counselor at the Timber
lake Job Corps Center in
Estacada.
During employ
ment with the Albina Citi
zens War on Poverty Com
mittee, he advanced from the
position of Vocational Coun
selor to Director of Job
Counseling and Placement,
and then became Executive
Director of the Albina Neigh
borhood Service Center. He
resigned to become full-time
pastor of the Berean Baptist
Church.
Reverend Gilmore served
as pastor of the Berean Bap
list Church from 1966 to
1972. During his pastorate
he led the congregation in
erecting a new sanctuary
which included a Child Care
Center. The center has ex
tensions at United Methodist
Church and at Woodlawn
United Methodist Church.
He played a major role in
the beginning stages of the
Model Cities Program, in the
establishment of the Citizens
Planning Beard, and served
as a member of the tern
porary Planning Board.
In addition to his position
as program director, Rev
erend Gilmore serves on the
facility at the Concordia
Junior College as Minority
Coordinator. He is chairman
of the Credit Committee of
the NAACP Credit Union;
president of the OUTREACH
Evangelist Association, which
sponsors a drop-in center
caiied "The Door" for ex
offenders, and is a chaplain
in the Civil Air Patrol, Bea
verton Squadron.
“My work with the Con
cordia College, located at
N.E. 29th and Holman, will
help greatly in the realiza
tion of the AMA programs.
Since Concordia is a Chris
tian orientated college, it of
fers an ideal setting to pro
mote a continuing educational
urogram for our ministers
and church workers as well
as a junior college education
for high school graduates
who want a competent back
ground for teaching, busi
ness, social service and other
professions," he said.
"I am planning a personal
visitation program with many
of our local church groups to
inform them of the AMA and
Concordia programs. Also, I
would encourage interested
persons to call if they think
AMA or Concordia can be of
help to them, or if they would
like to help either of these or
ganizations.”
