'Watergate Papers’ quick success
Manning hi» booth at the
NEA conference in Portland
i* Sid Rrawrr, creator of the
Watergate Paper». A satire
on the Watergate scandal,
the kit. produced by "Water
bug Productions", contains
cartoon», picture», do it your
self material», a set of letter
heads to make your own
forgeries, and the popular
new song by Missouri Con
gressman William J,. Hein
gate, "Down at the Old
Watergate".
«rawer, who is an adver
tising photographer, ron
reived the idea on the day
President Nixon spoke to the
nation. A friend called him
to say "Sid, have you heard
the new»? . . . Everybody'»
resigning . .. Haldeman, Er
lichman, Sigretti. Mitchell,
and many others on the
White House staff."
The
purpose of the Watergate
Papers is to provide some
comic relief to the terrible
events faring the nation to
day. «rawer believes that
no matter how tragic a situa
lion the country is involved
in. the one great thing about
Americans is that they can
still laugh and have a sense
of humor.
Copies were passed out at
the ofiening session of the
Senate Watergate hearings.
An instant sucres after it's
introduction at the Double
day Hook Store in New York,
the initial printing was sold
out in three days. A second
printing of 200,000 is now off
the press.
Another hit of Waterbug
Production» is a line ol a
different Watergate T Shirts,
which are being manufar
lured at a rate of 20,000 a
day. Additional items are on
the drawing board, foreign
rights are being sold to a
syndicate for publication of
the Watergate Papers in
France, England. Germany,
Japan. Italy, New Zealand
and Israel.

fit to defeat House «ill 3283.
What is House Rill 3283?
You will recall that we, the
NAACP, and others worked
hard to get Senate Kill 475
passed only to have the
young Senator from Klamath
Falls. Fred Heard, get up in
the Senate and refer this hill
hark to committee. (Please
remember that referring bills
back to committee is the
"code word” for kill it.)
Therefore. House Bill 328ft
came into being, which would
do the same for us as Senate
Bill 475. The bill simply is
"to deny a liquor license to
clubs that discriminate be
cause of race, color or sex".
The defeat of this bill only
indicates "loud and clear” the
long way we still have to go
in this State to make "civil
rights and equal opportunity
a reality for all its citizens".
We have 31 persons who
said by their vote that to
"discriminate against a per
son because of race, color or
sex is the way of life for
them and we must uphold
segregation as honorable and
justifiable".

And to the 31 who voted

I trust you will remember
that this is the thinking of
over one half of our legis

great cause to be concerned
and truly a sad time in our
history.
I wish to thank Repre
sentative Vera Katz “ for her
courage and guts" to stand
up and be counted and to
speak out for the rights of
human beings as persons. I
am mindful, however, of the
fact that there were 28
others who stood up and for
this the NAACP says "thank
you".
