The auto­
motive class was working on
a car that was recently
donated to them by Olds-
mobile of the General Motors
Corp. The car is one of 22
other cars that fell off a
train in the Columbia Gorge.
Other courses at POIC in­
clude sewing machine repair,
job seeking, and Black His­
tory. Also, while you are
training for a job. POIC is
locating positions to make
sure that when you have
finished training, it will not
be in vain.
So New York is getting
their thing together, Cali­
fornia always thought they
were hip, but Portland has
some Tor-real’ things too! A
down to earth, self-help pro­
gram, run by down to earth
people for those of us who
are down and out; but don't
intend to stay that way!

They were not opposed to
paying for child care but
objected to what they con­
sidered excessive payments.
A continuing debate has
existed between CSD and
the child care programs since
last fall when CSD decided
to cut back on the federal
funds used by the 4-C child
care programs. Elimination
of many of the programs by
CSD has been delayed sev­
eral times by interceding of
the Governor, the Legisla­
ture, and by public senti­
ment.

I Estrada Luchica Glover is a Senior at John
lAdams High School. She will graduate early
llrom High School since she met all of the
requirements in January. Estrada plans to
attend Oregon State University this fall. She
|plans to become an attorney or journalist.
Estrada recently represented Adams at a
drop-out prevention workshop at Lincoln
University in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Estrada has worked part time at Legal Aid
Services and at the Family Law Center. She
attended the Upward Bound program at
Oregon State University during the summer of
1972. Estrada is now looking for employment
to earn money for her Freshman year.

to have the b ill passed by
the substantial vote of 21 fo r
and 9 against.

go a long way toward reduc­
ing the deaths, in ju ry and loss
of w ork days by the employees
of O regon.

Humane Society terminated
its agreement to act as
Poundmaster for the City of
Portland.
Since that time
the Society has not been
engaged nor involved with
impounding, picking up. in-
holding any stray animal for
