Fund announced this week
that it had secured the
services of Yancey F. M artin
as Executive Director.
M artin,
37
years
old.
formerly worked on the ad
ministration and campaign
staffs of Senator George
McGovern, and was Deputy
M inority Director of the
Democratic National Commit
tee.
A native of Montgomery,
Alabama, he received a B.S.
Degree from Central State
University in Wilberforce.
Ohio, and served for 8 years
in the United States Arm y,
leaving with the rank of
Captain.
During his service with
the D e m o cratic N a tio n a l
Committee, M artin helped to
oversee successful voter reg-
istration and political drives
under the party's auspices
throughout America.
As
McGovern's top Black aide,
he was responsible for pre
convention organization in
the Black communities, and
helped run the Black side of
the McGovern Shriver cam
paign on a national level.
He
succeeds
C linto n
DeVeaux. who will be re­
turning to law school but
who will continue to work
with the Fund on a consul
tant basis.
The Southern
Elections
Fund is a non profit, non
partisan political fund raising
o r g a n iz a tio n e s ta b lis h e d
nearly four years ago.
