Today this

an up and coming young poet
by the name of Glenn Harper.
As a member of the black
w ritsra workshop, I have had
the distinct pleasure of meet

coming black talent In the
arsa that have penned their
thoughts to prose. One such

Beauty seems to fade Into a

of blood that's mixed with
toll, anqulsh, desire, frus
tration, and finally death."
The vital forces In which
we 'lestroy ixjrselves. Instead
of others dictate the feeble
ness of a sick society. We
live In a chaotic balance of

Avoid the m irro rs
because it semis back reflec
tions of failures, weaknesses.
Our daughter received
a dangerous toy for her
birthday. It had wires that
could poke out eyes and
hands of a clock that could
be swallowed and all
parts could be easily re
moved. W hat is being
done to remove dangerous
toys from the market?
— Hillsboro
I have notiHed the Fed
eral Food and Drug Ad
ministration’s Bureau of
Product Safety about the
toy you mentioned, and it
will be investigated This
bureau has the legal au
thority to ban toys and
children’s articles that
present mechanical, elec
tncal or thermal hazards.
In the past two years, regu
lations have been pub
lished banning toys with
sharp points that could cut
a child; toys containing
small or detachable com
ponents that a child could
swallow or inhale; toy
guns and caps which pro
duce sounds too loud for
children’s ears, unsafe
clacker balls; lawn darts
improperly labeled; and
hazardous baby bouncers
and walkers Enforcement
of these regulations result
ed in about 460 bannings
last year The Bureau also
is developing a regulation
which w ill specify a maxi
mum safe distance be
tween crib slats.
