I do not mean to infer that

psychological
implications do not concern
black women. Black women
are in fact more dissatisfed
with th e ir social roles. More
deeply than whites they are
distressed that th e ir sexual
ro e may have lim ited their
chances fo r self fu lfillm e n t,
are convinced that doors to
success which are open to
men are shut fo r women,
and often consider th e ir years
of schooling wasted.

evaluations; they are the in-

French agrege’ is held by
only a handful of French
people.
Unique
aspects
of the
course, according to R. Carol
Healy, bead of the foreign
languages department, is that
it offers a different cultural
point of view on the role of
women in society. Although
we are used to the Anglo-
Saxon viewpoint, the French
woman is different, she said.
M rs. Fisher w ill present
the course in both French and
English. She has taught con­
temporary literature, psy­
chology. French and English
at the University of Leicester
in England, PSU, UCLA, the
U niversity of Bordeaux in
France and the U niversity of
Portland.

focus on issues so irrelevant

ing people as to appear d ile t­

But there is a more basic
reason for black disenchant­
ment. Black iieople, because
they have lived w ith d is c rlm i-
natton and struggled to over­
come b u ilt-in prejudice, can­
not relate to a cause which
separates and isolates social
problems on the basis of sex.
They
u n d e rs ta n d

personal experience thatdis-
crim ination, poverty, and the
m iseries they bring are not
sexually exlusive.

fluenced by the conventional
wisdom served by journalists
and other opinion molders.
F o r it was the same sort
of sim plistic analysis, myth
making and stereotyping which
convince} many people that
working people are the most
conservative force in society,
when in fact conserv ative and
reactionary attitudes are fa r
more prevalent among the
wealthy.
Black women in reality’,

contrary to popular
myth, poor women respond to
