pointed to see The Portland

Portland Development Com ­
m ission. 1 think It’ s v e ry nice

so happy in th e ir new homes.
How ever, the a rtic le (ailed to
answer several questions that
come to my mind:
1) What happens to people
in an urban renewal area who
don't w a n tto m o v e to P a rk ro s e
o r any other nice, white sub­
urb? I, for one, wouldn't want
a suburban home even If It
w ere twice the value of my
$12,000 Model C itie s area
residence.
2) How generous would the
PDC have been to the Eatons,
W illia m s o ra n y other res­
ident of the Em anuel project
without the pressure from
EDPA and Albina Legal Aid?
3) M r . W illia m s says he

year ago. Why, when this has
been an on-going project for
some 8 years?
4) How long are the people
of Portland going to let 5 men
(the PDC C o m m issio ners),
none of whom live in an area
that w ill be facing urban re­
newal in the foreseeable fu­
tu re, make decisions affecting
the lives of thousands of peo­
ple, spend m illio n s of federal
d o lla rs , and not be required to
answ er d ire c tly to anyone?
