Meditation Society was found
ed several years ago by tlw
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, from
India, and designed to “ save
the w orld” thru the a rt and
science of meditation. They
say his guru or teacher in India
maintained silence 60 or 70
years in the Himalayas and re
covered this science from
3000 years of obscurity. The
p r e s e n t teacher, the Ma
harishi. supposedly studied
with him around 13 years,
and emerged clad in cloth,
sandals and beads, to begin
his mission.
The movement today is In
most of the m ajor cities of
this country, Canada, South
Am erica, Europe and Asia. It
is the one where you present
at the Initiation ceremony,
fru it, flowers and handker
chief which you later take
home as a memo. A t the
ceremony

mantra o r sacred

based on your age, sex a n d
general statistics. This Is
given by a student who has
spent 6 months with the Ma
harishi m Majorca, Spain,
or elsewhere and has learn
ed the ceremony to perfect
ion. This initiation,

This society holds out the
hope of God realization in
5 y e a r s , with only 2 -2 0 -
mlnute periods of meditation
daily, while In the meantims

technique of living, rather

opinion that meditation and
God-realization Is not some
thing which can be bought in
4 or 5 $75 doses guaranteed
to cring permanent results. I
believe
that some people
f r o m India are capitalizing

genuinely great heritage to
bring to a sp iritu a lly hungry
West, tired of m aterialism , a
hope which could be true but
that they fa lsify. God aixd
religion cannot be bought.

was smug, self-centered and
e f f e t e , besides h a v in g a
squeeky voice. Likewise the
leader of the group, you w ill
have to pardon it, could not be
described as other than a
sap. One's sincerest aspira
tions were replied.
I would like to insert a word
of caution:
Mantras may be rr.lsued:
meditation may be sold, but
woe to those that do so.
T h e ir g ifts, if they have any
w ill be taken from them. A
genuine yogi would never sell
his product.
It is said, "B e s till and
know that I am Cod.” This
mandate s till holds. One only
need listen, in the g r e a t
vastness of creation...and it
